I think she's Puerto Rican. So that'll make her hispanic. Close enough though lol.
I have the cards I have for the perks they promised me at the time of applying. I didnt get them for someone to think im somthing im not. Personally I dont want to give my card to a waitress and her think "wow this is a fancy card I bet it has a high limit and he can afford it so Im going to copy down this number and charge a vacation to spain". As long as it works when swiped and I get my promised perks I dont care what it looks or feels like. Plus the market is so full of "platinum" and "world" and "elite" etc that it doesnt matter really most people cant tell them apart.

For what it's worth a good credit rating and as a consequence a prime credit card does at least partially speak to a person's financial stability.

While this may be true, it begs the question was the number given before or after the tip portion of the bill was filled out? On another though, if anyone believes that a waitress, gas station attendant, or anyone besides absolute higher end restaurants and retail establishments cares what kind of card they are to swipe....you are SADLY MISTAKEN. The clerk making minimum wage really does not care about your financial stability because they are doing what they can to simply survive.

Excellent point. That's why I like to cover all my bases and stuff a sock down my jockeys after checking my wallet and keys. Something's bound to work on those hard to impress gas attendants.

I always use self-serve pumps, and, believe me, almost NOTHING impresses them. I've tried.
Oh longtimelurker! LOL! That really made me laugh. Thanks for that! I gotta use that one if you don't mind. ![]()
Define "Prestige".
Do you want a card that impresses YOU because you know stuff about it that you find impressive? Or do you want a card that impresses others?
If it's the former, I guess it depends on how knowledgable you are about qualification criteria.
If it's the latter, just get an Amex Gold or Platinum.....like others have said. Why? Because 99% of people out there (Maybe more!!) don't know diddly about cards and Amex has mastered the image of prestige. Period.
To the unbelievably few who do know about cards, what impresses them depends on their own values. The only cards that would impress me even somewhat are ones you can't readily get...like the Centurion....especially the non-biz or non-corp version. All other Amex cards? Not impressed. Do what works for you. Personally, if I knew someone who had an Amex Platinum and I knew/learned that they hardly ever traveled, I would consider him a fool and shallow poser for wasting money on such superficial appearances and on such a worthless card for his needs. To know that he wasn't even a person of at least some upper mid class income level, I would consider him even more of a shallow foolish poser.
Something besides the rare cards that impresses me is people who know their cards. I own a restaurant and when I take cards from people that imply a knowledge of restaurant rewards cards, I am somewhat impressed because I generally meet extremely few people who use rewards cards and use them properly. So when I see regulars flash out the Freedom during 5% cash back time at restaurants, for example, I give an admiring grin.
