So, my credit journey has taken a turn for the better since I started in March. About 3 weeks ago I purchased a new Camaro with no cosigner, and got a pretty good rate with a 762 transunion score. Thing is, the car has summer tires, and Chicago is known for some pretty bad winters, so im going to need a set of winter tires.
The question is, do i go with a normal credit card (looking at chase freedom unlimited, which will get me 15 months) or a store card (like discount tire/tire rack). I plan on using this card after buying the tires, but will need at least a $1500 limit. Seems to me like a no brainer for somethign like the chase. However, I do still consider myself a noob at this so would like to know if im missing anything, or if there is anythign better out there?
Id say go with Chase
Go with Chase. You could get more money back by using the "Shop through Chase" program for Tire Rack (3% cash back vs 1.5%).
+ 1 We will purchasing winter tires for our Mini soon.

thanks for the answers peeps. I figured chase would be the better route, but wasnt sure if the store card would give higher limits or incentives I didn't know about. Sounds like Chase Freedom Unlimited is the route to go.

How long have you had your Double Cash? It might be worth requesting a HP CLI instead of applying for another credit card.

Except that they're looking for a 0% APR period.

Personally I don't like store cards, so I say go with a bank card. Or better yet, being in Illinois, go with a nice credit union like Alliant or Andigo (formerly MECU).

The double cash was PC in march i believe. It was a graduated secure card for about a year before that. just got declined for a no pull cli, but thats because i was accepted less then 6 months ago. (originally tried to get cli to 3000 for down payment on the car and PIF, didnt work)

Yep. Would like to keep interest free if possible. My simplicity will be exiting its intro 0% in november and thats my last 0%. Also Only have Citi cards and all are MC. so would like a new bank and a visa, though i did think about the citi costco card, but only 7 mo on that.

Im still not really sure about how credit unions work, havent done the research. Will they approve me for more then 1500 as a new customer? I am fond of the idea of joining a CU, but figured i'd have to have like a checking/savingings acct with them and build rapport first... again uneducated on Credit unions and how they opperate. Also I am a citigold customer, and really invested in citi, dont really want other checking/savings account. I think thats what has kept me from looking at credit unions.
