Re: Low Limit Discover

Interesting - I got a second Discover IT last week and my SL is $5000; my first card last year had a $2500 SL and has only grown to $4500, so I'm pretty sure it's a "starter"/lower-credit card. I'm planning to combine it with the new card next year once that card ages to 1 year old.

Re: Low Limit Discover

My EQ FICO 8 on March 13th (the day after I got my new Discover IT) was 693; as of the 20th it'd bounced up to 703.

that is  the debate i have. Previous experience with CreditOne has confirmed for me that it will not be reported until its activated.

Discover is NOT Credit One, who seem to fo things out of spite. Discover will report whether you activate or not.

Credit One is not Discover. Odds are, the card is going to report, even if you close it.

I got a $1000 SL on my discover and i haven''t activated it for i do not want this card until i have much higher limit.

also, if i register this card now, i will not be able to apply for Slate/Freedom cards with chase for 5/24 rule,

what are my chances of getting higher limits on discover? I have not yet activated nor is it showing on my credit reports anywhere just yet.

@I had the same issue. This was my fourth CC and they gave me a $1k limit. My next lowest was the Cap1QS1 @ $7250 and my highest was the CSR @ $25,200.

I called in to increase the limit and they refused. A few months later they lowered it to $600. I keep having Bt offers, so I transfer and pay in full within a few months. Still nothing.

Wont seem to budge past $600. Two weeks ago, The same week that Discover rejected me (again) for a CLI, Chase gave me a $6500 CLI.

Hope your experience is bettter.

Just goes to show that just because one lender gives a certain amount doesnt mean others will follow suit. This is the Discover legacy afterallSmiley Wink

Me too Joe though im not sure we can call 1st cards  with Discover "starter" cards. This isnt Cap  1 after all. Its just Discover is so mysterious that often times getting a second card actually improves ones sl. Mine did but i dont hold on to any illusions that it will grow any moreSmiley Wink

Discover has reported the tradeline on Equifax. Dont know yet about EX & TU.

Fortunately, still makes it 4/24 on all 3 bureaus. My last chance at Chase.

Re: Low Limit Discover

Discover had me started at $4,000 almost 9 years ago, today my card is approximately $40,000.  They've been very good about raising my limits and offering me low temporary interest rates (if I call), and low balance transfer offers (website).

My Discover also has a much lower APR than my Capital One, AMEX, Chase and Citi cards.
