Luxury Card

I applied and was approved for an Uber Visa this past Tuesday (6 March).  All fine and dandy.  Happy to be in with Barclaycard finally and it looks like a great card and all.   Today, there is a black envelope in my mailbox today,  All it says is 'You're invited' On the back, "Luxury card" on the front.   Its an invitation for the Black Mastercard.  I'm assuming I'm on Barclay's radar now.

A- I'm assuming it's NOT a pre-aaproval, no where are the words pre-approved/pre-anything mentioned.

B- Would Barclaycard use the SAME HP from tuesday IF i were to bite?  If they'd use the same pull, there's no harm in asking, right?

C- How in the world do you justify the $500 annual fee?  Although, that metal card would be pretty cool.

Got a 700 TU 687 EXP and 695 EQ   23%util

Ok credit, getting better.....slowly.... Can't seem to stay in the Garden for any extended period of time. I'm trying. Mid to upper 600's across the board.

Re: Luxury Card

Don't waste your time or money with this card. If you want to pay that much to own a card. I'd suggest an Amex, Citi or Chase card with that kind of annual fee.
I've gotten several of these in the mail over the last year or two. They go straight in the trash. lol

Re: Luxury Card

Metal cards are cool. And Chase Amazon VISA has no AF and is a metal card...

NFCU $60.4k/PenFed $22.5k/Commerce $15K/53 $11K/Synovus $14K/BBT $11K/CapOne $12K/DCU $7.5K/BMO $7.5K/Chase $14.5k/Cabelas $10K/ and many many more!
Total CL $398600, plus car and RV loan.
Ooh. Ooh. Getting closer to that $500K mark!

Re: Luxury Card

A - probably not a preapproval, especially when there is no pre-screen opt out notice.

B - maybe, but I wouldn't bother with this card.

C - Not worth it. With the $495 annual fee you get $100 "Airline Credit Toward Qualifying Airline Purchases" annually, which I believe there are certain restrictions. But even if you fully utilize that credit, it's still $395 equivalent, which gives you the benefits Amex Platinum/CSR already have and those are $150 equivalent annual fee when fully using the credits but also offer great value. The reward points are not transferable to airlines or hotels, and you are capped at 2% return for airfare redemptions or 1.5% for cash back, while Citi Double Cash and Chase Freedom Unlimited can easily achieve such returns without annual fee.

Re: Luxury Card

For $50 less per year you can get the heavier metal Chase Ritz Carlton Rewards Visa Infinite Card. Also comes with benefits that justify the AF.

CSR and Amex Plat are some other metal options, as is the no AF Chase Amazon Prime. I think the Capital One Venture is too, now.
Kind of have everything I want now, creditwise. Undeliberately gardening until I have some spending to do and find a 100,000 Amex Platinum offer lol

Thanks for everyone's replies.  I really wasn't planning on it, that $500 AF is a bit ridiculous.     I will likely try for the Chase Amazon in about 6 months - a year.  Let the dust settle for Barclay, I hear they are a little jealous about apps after they give you a card, haha.   Amazon is NOT 5/24, right?
