Macy credit card

Just got denial letter from Macy for store card due to many inquires. I only have 9 in two years. Is there a way to recon ?

I called to recon and was told that I need to remove 5 of inquires before to apply again?

Re: Macy credit card

I was approved for a card with a lot! Do you have a thin file? Going out on a limb here I'm thinking the representative knows a few things about credit and is it trying to apply them to your profile… where 4 inquiries is an excellent rating but 5 is still good… you don't need excellent credit to get a Macy's card, just excellent credit to get an excellent limit. I would try calling again

Re: Macy credit card

Anyone know if you have had an old unpaid account with Macys does that still affect your decision?  I had a Macys account back in 1998 through 2003 for about 300 dollars and I fell behind on it and they closed the account in 04.  Obviously now the card isn't on any of my credit reports (0 chargeoffs) but I was wondering does Macy still keep record of your previous accounts?  Just trying to avoid getting denied for that reason as I believe my scores are good enough to get the store card again (and this time handle it the right way).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Macy credit card

I'm not 100% sure but your info most likely is still in their database. I've read somewhere that AmX and Citi keep records seemingly forever. IMHO, since it was only $300, call them and offer to pay it, then try reapplying. The outcome may be positive.

Re: Macy credit card

I am going to say no they don't have a memory that far back.  I had a Bon Marche, which they later changed to Macy's, that ended up being charged off and I got a card with them. I might have had a zero balance with that card, but I don't think so.

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.....
Always follow these rules: Only take a HP for a new account. Always use the best rewards card for that reward category. Don't close a card unless you know you really should. Never use more than 35% of a credit limit. Recon as much and as best you can. Use the introductory period to the best advantage. Get the signup bonus. Whenever possible PIF or balance transfer so you pay less in interest. Never give an excellent rating when it is actually the norm. Always look for a discount as more is always better.
Always accept candy from strangers because they have the best candy or from people you know have good candy.

Thanks. Ironically, Amex is what made me ask this question.  I just added an authorized user to my card and they asked if the person had every defaulted with Amex before and it had me thinking how long does your info stay with these companies.  I almost rather ask them first than take a hit applying and getting denied.

@TiggerDat - Thats what Im hoping but now I think I'll just see if I can make a general inquiry about it and decide.    Thanks though.
