I really need to vent.... so I received a letter from Macys and Bloomingdales about my application and was declined due to my Debt to Income Ratio was too high. I was taken back... never heard of that before! I mean if I was still making $5/hr 20 years ago I would have believe them..but I think I make pretty decent income at almost 6 digits a year. My report shows no Mortgage because it's all under my husband when I had a huge credit problem, my car is full paid and the only thing that I have left on my "collection" was about $400 medical bills and $6500 student loans that I disputed since it was part of a rehab that I already completed and already been paid in full. I have no credit cards, no installment account, NONE. So I kept asking the guy what my debts were and how much and he wouldn't tell me, I told him I make almost $x,0000 amount NET and NO outstanding debt... how can you not tell me! After 10 minutes of back and forth I asked for a supervisor.... the supervisor flat out said, I'm sorry, Experian sent us your report and THEY (Experian) showed us that your monthly debt is $6,900 a month x 12 that's $83,000 a year and you only make $xx,xxx.. we wont be able to approve you a credit... I mean WTH? Who in the right mind will calculate your collection account and multipily it by 12 and make that as their standards for your debt??? I'm just so pissed off I want to send them my 6 year's old Math Fundamentals handbook!

Sounds like you should gat a copy of your experian report. You can do that for free since they denied you credit. (No score but at least accounts etc)

I do have my Equifax report and actually it's odd because after I pulled my report was when I called Macys and talked to them. I see 4 collections on my file and they said I have 8! I was like what? are you serious? we pulled it with 1 week difference I dont see how that's possible and mine is most recent and I checked what has been removed from my credit from the last week but there was none. Also Experian just confirmed that they dont give "debt to income" or any $$$ at all - all upto the creditor... with that said, I think Macy's whoever calculated my account hit MULTIPLY instead of DIVIDED with my total obligation....
