Mailer for Citi CC -- is it a solid offer?

I received a mailer for the Citi CC telling me I was 'pre-selected to apply'. It gave me a personal number to redeem offer and it gave me a specific apr.

The Citi CC is the last card I really want for the foreseeable future, and so I was wondering if this seemed like a pretty solid offer or if the language 'pre-selected to apply' means it's not very solid.

It's not solid, but it's not Swiss cheese either.  Since it's a card you've really wanted, my vote is 'go for it'.

It means you met their minimum criteria to receive a marketing mailer to apply. Nothing more, nothing less. I'd look at where I am currently with usage of my other cards, scores, and if I met the sniff test for their x/6 on recent approvals since they can be rather conservative if this is your first Citi card.

Too bad Citi doesn't offer pre-approvals on-line anymore, however I say go for it if your are under Citi's 6/6 rule." A soft rule that states that Citi will automatically reject applications for anyone who has had more than six hard inquiries on their credit in the past six months."

I agree about their conservativeness. Still, calling out a specific APR is a good sign. If you haven't opened any new accounts lately, and it's a card that you want, and you don't think there'll be an appreciable difference in your scores in the next few months -- or improvement in interest rates -- then, why not go for it? If you're unsure, just wait a bit. Most likely, they'll send another offer, and you could be in an even stronger position credit-wise. Not too long ago, they sent several to me over the course of a few months, but the offers weren't for a card that I wanted. Eventually, when I was pretty sure that I'd be approved, I went online and applied for the specific card that I wanted, and got it. My mistake was being a greedy piggy, and applying right after getting a CC from another lender, so even though Citi approved me (with my relatively short history), my SL with Citi was waaaay below SLs with other CCs.
