Marvel denied

I applied for the Marvel Card 3 days ago, and got the 7-10 day message. I called and after the lady verified some of my information said I was declined. My TU fico8 was 720 at this time, no baddies 100% payment history, AAoA only about a year though. I got 4 hard inquiries from other applications on my TU report before I applied. They were within the same week. Thought I had a good chance. I did get approved for the 2% paypal mastercard a few days before this though.( Will be my first Sync account) Maybe that's why I got denied for Sync's Marvel card?

Re: Marvel denied

Sorry to hear you didn't get approved for Marvel, but take heart, the PayPal 2% is (IMO anyway) a good cash-back card and you'll be able to get a flat 2% back on everything instead of having your rewards vary according to category - though, that being said, I still have a hankering for the 3% CB Marvel offers on media purchases! I've been wanting the Marvel MC for a long time but my profile isn't - I don't think, anyway - quite good enough for Synchrony's "flagship" card, so I went for the PayPal 2% instead and I'm glad I did.

Re: Marvel denied

Sorry about the denial OP. I think because of your thin profile they wanna see some usage and good history from your PP MC first before handing you another card. DPs suggest that a TU8 670 with thick profile and no recent derog is good enough for their Marvel card.

Re: Marvel denied

I feel your pain, I also got denied for the Marvel a couple days ago.

I think Synchrony can be a little sensitive to recent inquiries. I also got denied for the JCP credit card a few a months ago, and the denial letter cited # of inquiries as the sole reason for the decline.

Re: Marvel denied

Yeah I think I had a total of 10 inquiries at the time, at least I got the Paypal MC. I was going for the black panther skin, dang it looks good. I need to add one of those cards that have higher rewards on dining/restaurants. Uber, Marvel. or Savor. (I got denied Uber also haha). I'll try again for one of them in 6 months.

With the recent Marvel, Citi DC and Uber denials, my suggestion is to refrain from applying for a while.  Otherwise, this can hinder your chances on getting the cards on your list when you want them.   The denials are definitely a sign to pause, reconsider and let things age...for a while (6+ months).

Re: Marvel denied

Yes, you're definitely right. During that app spree I did get 4 approvals. 4/8. Paypal 2% MC, Amex Everyday, Amex Cash Magnet,(Amex approves me for everything) and Commerce Special Connections ($8000 SL, my highest CL). I will garden and refrain from applying anymore for sure.

Re: Marvel denied

I got my Denial letter back today, and the CRA they used : SAGESTREAM LLC???? Score: 519.
I had to google this, and seems a lot of people have low scores with them, even though the the BIG 3 CRAs are reporting 700-800 scores for these individuals including myself. Marvel pulled my Transunion, but used Sagstream for my denying me... weird. Has anyone got a copy of their Sagestream reports? or experienced anything similar?

Yes you can request a copy or this report along with IDA and innovis among many other smaller CRAs.  My choice is to keep the smaller ones permanently frozen and leave the big 3 open although this has issues as well sometimes such as possibly unable to identify identity.  Reason being is the smaller CRA's don't always show the whole picture where-as the big 3 all or 99% of your accounts should be reflected.. What can't be discussed on this forum is freezing CRA's for forcing them to pull one CRA or influencing their decision by a more favorable one that is taboo

Thanks for sharing your experience, you were 4 for 8 (better than 0 for 8)! I know AMEX is EXP all day every day. Curious, what CRA did they pull for the Paypal 2% product ?
