I did a lot of searching on the forum before pulling the trigger on Sam's MC. It seems to be one of the harder cards to get from Sync. From reading I came to find that it's just not worth the risk of getting the store card (if you truly want the MC version) unless you're 720+ on TU. I know other VS/MC you can get from Sync with a score a little less than 700 on TU but I don't believe the Sam's Club MC is one of them. If you happen to run across someone who has obtained one under 700...trust me, they're the exception and not the rule. Best of luck if you do decide to pull the trigger...but also be prepared for the store card because that's what you'll get if you don't qualify for the MC...and no, you don't have an option to select one or the other when applying. If you don't qualify for MC, they'll try you for the store version, and if you don't qualify for that, you'll get a very nice letter in about 7 days explaining why.
I was instantly approved for the Sam's MC in March 2015. TU score was around 670. I usually only apply for cards when I've had an extended stay in the garden... (like now... the Sam's MC was my last app over a year ago) Minimal INQ's probably played an important part in my approval.
$2500 SL... Ch 13 that was 6 years old was reporting at the time. No collections... No CO's. Some prior history with Sync (Care Credit, misc gas cards)...
It's a great card to have... haven't gotten a CLI yet but not really surprising.. it's Sync.

Ok I got approved yesterday for Marvel at 6k after a CS call. I have had Sam's Club MC on my list and was wondering if it was probable to get approved. 685 TU, 9 INQ, 19% util, 1 paid CO.
Make sure that you are going to be ok with the rewards structure. I applied and was approved for the card last year without doing much research. I don't like the idea of waiting a whole year to collect the cashback, I'd rather redeem it whenever I want but with this card you can't. I don't put more than $100 on gas a month and when I travel my company pays for it, so I'm not getting much from the 5% on gas and 3% on travel. My card is about to get the axe since it won't affect util and its not used at all. Keep in mind that in the event of an AA if the card is closed you lose all of the rewards.
Lots of good info so far... I can add my own experience as a data point.
When I got my Sam's Club MasterCard last summer my score was around 710 (708?), and I had super-low inquiries - I think one on TU - which is what they pulled. I had two old CO accounts (one has since aged off, the other is about to).
Also, I'm not sure if this helped or not, but my two oldest accounts are Lowe's (12 years) and Belk (10 years), both of which are of course Synchrony as well.
I have a feeling I 'squeaked' by since my SL was only $1500, but with heavy usage I've now been increased to $8500 (only using the button; I haven't tried Credit Solutions yet).
A few days later I applied and was approved for Care Credit with a SL of $8k (probably with a score close to what was used the previous week to approve my Sam's) so it does seem that Sam's Club MasterCard is one of their more difficult cards to qualify for.
FWIW, most of the approvals for the MasterCard I see on here are with scores around 720-ish or higher, but as it was mentioned earlier if you dig around you'll find exceptions.
I hope this helps! ![]()

Thank you. Great info. It's funny how sometimes we know the answer, but need someone else to give us that answer. I'm sure I can get Sam's Store card, but I don't want to get stuck with it. I will wait to be around 720.

Good point. I didn't know those points. I'll definitely take advantage of 5% on gas, but a whole year is real test of patience. Good thing I have to garden, so I can ponder this..
