No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
Yes, decent scores but thin/young file.
Im sure you were amped up when you applied and now are just about heart broken.
(i know i would be)
Good thing you did was come here, get all these knowledgeable folk giving ideas.
One thing I will say is look into some secured cards....nothing wrong with them.
But disco and amex should be good otherwise. maybe one store card that you know you already
could put good use towards, amazon/target/lowes/something to that nature.
capital one is another....along with disco, c1 was one of my first cards....and
I just recently upgraded from a platinum (no rewards for like 12 years!!!) to a venture one!
oh, and there are some good credit unions that could treat you right too!
explore the possibilities and ask questions!

Unfortunately I don't have any offers under the My Offers tab on my chase account, and nothing is offered when I try the pre-qualification either so I will likely have to look elsewhere for the time being. There are 3 inquiries for Experian (one being from the CSP app), 2 for TU (again, one is chase), and only one for Equifax, which I guess chase didn't pull from.
Try these two sites and let us know the results:
American Express Pre-qualifications
Also try CardMatch and see if anything shows up: https://www.creditcards.com/cardmatch/
Even though they arent Visa and MC.. Both Discover and Amex are very welcoming of thin but clean files.... Which is what you have...
Id actually go for both, wait 6 months and see about something else... Chase wants a year, and your AUs arent gonna help at all with that...

Get the allure of wanting a V/MC now.. but do you really want the pulls .. if you wait, you can always go back to Cap One for a MC/Visa.. It might be productive to wait 6 months even if you just decide to take the 3 HP for a Cap One card..

Thanks for the suggestion. Discover told me I prequalified for the Discover it Cash Back Card and the Discover it Chrome Card. Amex told me I prequalified for the Premier Rewards Gold card, the Everyday Credit Card, and the Blue Cash Preferred card.
Creditcards.com told me I prequalified for a bunch of CapitalOne cards, like the Savor Cash Rewards, VentureOne, Quicksilver, Platinum as well as the Amex cards I mentioned above. It also said I matched with a lot of other cards, including the Chase cards, but I'm assuming a match without a prequalification doesnt mean anything.
Any thoughts on any of these cards?
If memory serves me correctly, you don't currently have any card of your own, right?
Based on the cards that you were pre-approved for, and the fact that you want to accumulate travel rewards, I would suggest applying for the Amex EveryDay card and the Discover IT card. And if you're adventurous you can also apply for the Amex Premier Reward Gold but that's an $195 annual fee charge card (fee waived first year). Amex will approve 1 credit and 1 charge card if you app for them simultaneously. The EveryDay card will allow you to save Membership Rewards points that you can transfer to Amex's airline partners at above their nominal value. The same goes for the PRG. The Discover card offers 5% matching for the first year so effectively you will get 10% cash back on any charges for the first year.
Note that Chase has a strict 5/24 policy (you will be turned down for a Chase card if you open 5 new credit accounts in a 24-month period) so you want to minimize the number of cards you open now so you can apply for your desired Chase card after you have had these first two cards for at least 6 months.
EDIT: Another option is to check with your college's alumni association to see if they offer credit cards. I know Bank of America has partnerships with many alumni associations so you might be able to get a Visa card through that avenue (see the Michigan/BofA Cash Rewards card in my signature for example).
Hey guys, thanks again for the help. Just got confirmation over the phone that I was actually approved for the CSP with a 10k credit limit but I certainly learned a lot along the way!
Nice! Congrats on your approval!
