I'm trying to understand the process on Capital One. From what I gather, you wait till you pre qualify for a Platinum or Quicksilver One MC with an annual fee and then try to get them PC'd into a Quicksilver Visa with no annual fee. I read on these forums the Platinum can PC into the QS VS in a little over 2 statements but the QS1 MC takes 6 months. Is the Platinum the easiest card to get? I also read you can apply for 2 Capital One cards close together. How close together? Is it the same HP for 2 apps? Also would then the plan be to apply for the Platinum first and if approved then the QS1 and try to PC the Platinum into a QS VS after a few statements and then after 6 statements try to combine the QS1 MC with the QS VS? If so could you also combine the CL of each QS?

Usually if you apply for 2 cards at the same time it will only be 1 HP (for Cap1 that's 1 HP on each bureau) - however, that doesn't always work. Another thing to think about is that Cap1 only allows people to have 2 sub-prime cards at one time (sub-prime = Secured, Journey, Quicksilver One, and Platinum). They will allow up to 5 prime cards (prime = Quicksilver, Venture, and Venture One). So if you already have 1 sub-prime card from them, you can only get 1 more. I don't have any experience with upgrading or pc'ing their cards, but I do have experience with combining their cards, and if you're eligible you can combine the cards together. The only cards that can't be combined are the secured and co-branded cards.
Ok and I read you have to have closed your secured acct for 30 days before you can apply for non secured. Do you think the pre qualify site works if you already have a secured card? Combining cards combines limits too right? Did you know if the Platinum is easiest to get? I'm being lazy asking you instead of spending the time lookin in the forum. I have been reading about it but we only have one laptop and apparently I'm a big ol laptop hog who's obsessed with credit I really am too,,it's bananas. Credit cards and fishing. Eventually I plan to obsess over mortgage loans. I can't wait.
I don't know if the secured card has to be closed for 30 days before being approved for an unsecured card - I've never heard that before. The pre-qualifier should still work, the only time it won't work is if you app'd and/or were approved for one of their others cards in the last 30 days. After 30 days it will work again. Combining cards does combine the limits, and one of the cards will be closed. You get to choose which one you want to close and which one you want to keep. As far as which one is easier, I would say that the Quicksilver One and Platinum are both the easiest to get (equally).
Edit: Cap1's pre-qualifier also won't work for those under 21 years old.
Ok I see. In that case it's not working because we just don't qualify. I have our plan set for when she does though. Oh does the annual fee on the QS1 not kick in until the end of the year?
I believe the Quicksilver One's annual fee kicks in right away,
Update: My fiancee's collection that was due to fall off June fell off early today! Her Credit Karma EQ score went up 38 points from 599 to 638. TU went up 6 points to 604. My Chase freedom card came at 9 am. It was shipped UPS Next Day Air. I signed the back with a red pen on accident. I wonder if that matters.

Very nice! And I don't think the color of the ink really matters, as long as it's signed
For the record, the freedom looks a lot cooler than I thought it would. The pics of it don't do it justice. It has some neat reflective angles.
Today my CK TU credit score dropped 1 point. The reason was a $4 increase in my balance.
That brings my current balances of all cards at the time of this update up to $6. Doesn't that seem odd?
Scared to see how far it drops after I put $600 on credit this June.
