Captool, you're not alone.
They did the same thing to me almost over a year ago, I opened a checking account and $500.00 savings; then applied for the VISA credit card approved instantly with $30,000.00 CL.
I received the card & activated it with no problem. I was so excited could not wait to commence flashing off the card.
I went to MacDonald, swiped the card instant decline! What? it can't be let's try again no go/ so I used a different card the restaurant was full of people during lunch time.
Called them from my office got transferred to several Reps. then this guy answered phone he asked me all kind of questions and he needs all kind of documents and I said I'll get them for you the and just before he hung up he said oh I may need more documents..
By the way, I did fax them my driver's license and SS card the day I was approved.
The guy was very rude and I could tell he was not going to unblock the credit card.
Anyway, I sent them the documents they need and haven't heard from them and I never bothered calling them.
My three credit reports say: Credit Card Closed by Creditor.
The weird thing is the NASA website still shows the credit card as closed. Credit limit: $30,000.00. Available credit $30,000.00
If NASA thinks I am not a creditworthy borrower or not good enough to carry one of their credit cards that's their prerogative and God bless them but, no need to play me.

CAP(I like that start of your name ), I wish things had gone differently for you. I just read all 22 pages of your thread after applying for my savings account. I thought after reading another thread or 2 that I was going to apply for the card as well, but after reading about that fiasco I think I am at least going to wait until I hopefully hear some good news on the account, and possibly awhile longer for my score to go up a bit.
I had been so excited after everything I had read tonight agout NASAFCU, including seeing some others who had gotten the card with much lower scores, but this thread has changed my mind about applying right now. If it makes you feel any better, you may have helped someone else(me), by getting me to use more caution than I was currently int he mood to use. I know that wasn't likely your intent, but at least maybe you will help my outcome. It seems like a real crapshoot now, with the variety of outcomes I've read about. I wasn't looking for a super high limit, but as someone who is self employed I was hoping to avoid needing to send in all of that information, especially reporting a relatively low income.
It seems credit unions seem to require more income verification. Have any self employed readers of this thread not needed it with NASAFCU? I also wonder if waiting until after I hear back about the savings account might be helpful? I may be stuck in the garden for a bit. My goal is to make it more like "just visiting" in Monopoly, and then hardcore after I get this card. Maybe someone else out there who has relatively recently applied and is self employed with a more modest income than most on here, or any 2 of those 3, can give me some good news that they might not require all of that for me.
CAP, you seem to have a good attitude when it comes to being over them. I hope I dont have reason to be the same way, but I still admire your ability to be like that.

Excellent post!
Just got off the phone with CSR and my "instant approval" for $15k SL was changed to $5k on the documents.
When i questioned why they said it was because the PLOC was reviewed first and given the higher limit. Even though I app'd for the card first.
They also said I barely squeaked in with a EX 640. My Fico EX was at 674 on app day....the rep couldn't tell me which fico model they used and sounded like she didn't even know what I was referring to.
I asked about subsequent CLI's and all will be HP.
so bottom line is I have a bright shiny new card on the way....$5k at 14.99% and it took 20 days to get this answer.
Connsidering Penfed approved me for $10k at 9.9% in three days I think I'll be SD'ing the Nasa card.

Some CUs are known to adjust lending exposure during a secondary review. If they feel that during the 1st pass something needed additional scrutiny, then this is why you see some lines adjusted or rescinded altogether. It is unfortunate, but each lender has their own internal credit policy (as whacky as they may be). NASA FCU has been known to do this but they're not the only ones.
Just a followup. It took a while, but both invalid accounts have now been removed from all three of my files. I went back and forth with NASA for over a month, and they flatly refused to remove them. In my last message to them I made it clear that I would start filing complaints, and they still refused.
So I filed a complaint with the CFPB. They responded two weeks later that they referred it to NCUA. Waited a month and heard nothing, so I filed a complaint directly with NCUA. Then for good measure I filed a complaint with the MD consumer protection division, and the BBB. Within a few days NASA responded to the BBB complaint, said that they had investigated and would be removing the entries. A few days later I got a snail mail from them responding to the NCUA complaint saying the same thing.
Nice that your persistence has paid off and the trade lines removed.
