Re: NFCU Advice for applying for Membership/Products

Good call with a template of sorts. I wouldn't want it getting all unruly.

I paid for FedEx too, got the card in about 4 days, the separate letter about four days later.

Re: NFCU Advice for applying for Membership/Products

I waited too long myself and missed out on the Navy League backdoor, but while looking up information in connection with a discussion about NFCU membership on another thread (I needed to double-check to see under what circumstances Federal government employees are eligible for membership), I discovered the family-member alternative. I have quite a few family members who are or have been in the military. Several of them are uncles and cousins so probably aren't eligible connections, but my grandfather and father (Marines) and my stepfather (Army) definitely are. I have no information as to whether they ever were NFCU members (my many-years-deceased grandfather served from the 1930's through the 1950's, and my also-long-since-passed father was in the Corps and Corps Reserve from the 1950's on to his death; and my stepfather, retired from the Army for nearly 30 years, is a Penfed member which is how I myself became a Penfed member). When I took the online eligibility test at NFCU's site, I got back that I needed to either call them or visit a branch - by good fortune, there's a branch not far from where I live, so I'll do that one day soon.

My active duty son isn't a member but since he's eligible for membership I was able to join thru his eligibility. I just had to call to join. Our nearest branch is 3-4 hours away.
