I just joined NFCU last month. I opened a 10K CD and a checking acct. I am very interested in the Flagship. But am worried about apping and getting declined because I am a new member. I have read here that one strategy is getting one of their other cards and then at 91/3 app for the Flagship. I was wondering if there are other strategies?
For instance, if I call to apply and get declined, will I be able to ask for another product on that pull?
Is there hope for Recon?
Should I wait til I have been a member for say 3 months then apply?
Do they ever have offers for cards under Offers on your account login? And are they instant approvals?
Feels weird to worry, I have a great profile. Scores in sig, <1% Utilization, 1% DTI, income $65K (double if I use household), oldest acct 25 yrs and average age is 11 yrs. But I have read the horror stories of folks getting declined for the Flagship, so here I am....
Any advice is appreciated.
NFCU has a prequalify method via phone call. Give em a call and see what cards you are preapproved for. 👍
I called and they said they do not do phone prequals....

They do, DP's have showed this. The CSR was probably new.
Try calling again. (HUCA)
If still "NO" ask for a Rep.
If for some reason you cannot get a pre-qual on the phone, I would strongly suggest NOT apping for the Flagship,
maybe The Cash Rewards VISA or The More Rewards .. keep in mind the More Rewards runs on The American Express Network.
Please keep us posted!

They most definitely do have a pre qual and it's only by phone. How do I know??? I called and did it. If the flagship is your goal card, I'd recommend going for any other card and waiting out the 91/3 requirement and then app for it because 9 times out of 10 the 2nd card gets a monster SL. I started out with the more rewards Amex and at my 91/3 I called and asked if I had any pre approved offers and the lady said I was pre approved for all of their cards. I hung up and pondered it for a couple of minutes and asked for a cli on the first card in about an hour it went from 7.8k to 15.8k (always ask for 25k they'll counter if they won't approve the full amount of the request) right after I asked for a cli on the more rewards I apped for the flagship and was instantly approved for 25k. I got an extra 33k in credit in an hour on a single HP and it was glorious!
I believe your worries are unfounded.
You don't need to pre-qualify. Just go on there and get the card you want.
Your scores are great. You have nothing to worry about.
It's one hard pull. I believe you'll be approved for a $25k SL right off the rip!
You're overthinking this.

Yeppers.
OP, in 2018 I applied for the flagship immediately after joining, and was declined due to not meeting minimum credit line, per the denial letter that would come in the mail about four days later. Flagship has a minimum SL $5,000.
On the second day, I was inst-approved for GoRewards with an SL of $4,800, so I was just $200 shy of qualifying for the flagship. I could have reconn'd had I known how close I was to qualifying for the flagship, I guess.

This^^^ is why I was saying go for any other card, as there are no guarantees of meeting the $5K requirement for the Flagship.
@Gunnerboy, Thank you for posting DP's.
