NFCU Application Process

If you are denied for an unsecured card, do they offer you the secured using the same HP?

I have a very on the edge FICO 9 of around 645 and with being a new member, I could see myself getting denied for one of the unsecured, non-flagship cards.  I'm curious if I do get denied, do I get the chance to take the secured card during the online application process and does it use the same credit pull.

Re: NFCU Application Process

I was denied and was not offered the unsecured card.  I wound up taking another HP to get my secured.

this was in December.  My scores were about the same as yours at the time.

Hope this helps... good luck.

Re: NFCU Application Process

Thank you!  I think i'm going to play it safe and just apply for the secured card.  It's only purpose is to establish some history with NFCU and a secured card could certainly do that.

Re: NFCU Application Process

One more question....does the application for the secured card give you the option of picking a Visa or Mastercard?

I want it to be a Visa because all of my rewards cards are MC and I can't use them at CostCo.

Re: NFCU Application Process

If I had to do it again, I probably would have gone that route...

Also, you do have the option to pick visa or MasterCard.

Good luck!  I'm sure you'll be very happy with them!  3 months from now you could be like me and sitting with a second unsecured card with a 6900 CL!  I've just moved a bunch of high interest balances over for 0 percent balance transfer so thrilled with that!

Cheers!

When I applied for my cashRewards card a couple months ago, there was no option to select which network to be on from the application on the website.

That's interesting.  I just called them and they indicated there would be an option during the application process.  My ACH transfer clears on Monday into my NFCU account.  I'll give it a try then and report back.

Mine went to pending and there was No option for it. I found out what network it was on because of the image in the approval email.

Hmmmmm, I wonder if I'm better off applying over the phone to make sure I get what I want.

Which network did you end up getting?
