@OmarGB9  Your DTI is calculated by your monthly payments divided by your monthly income...not you total balance by yearly income. That would assume your total $52k debt would be due in one year time. In all honesty, only $52k in debt is not much for $90k in income. That doesn't hide the other factor that could be at play but it should bring some clarity to the DTI issue.

Hmm, I guess the EX credit monitoring threw me for a loop with it showing my total debt as $52k. I had forgotten DTI is monthly payments not total debt...I guess that makes sense, especially when considering mortgages. lol. Smiley Happy Appreciate the insight! Are you an NFCU member @Anonymous ?

Re: NFCU Approval Odds with dirty file

@OmarGB9  yes, if doing it the way you were thinking, no one with a mortgage would ever qualify for a credit card.

I am a member of Navy. Been a member for almost two years (I think). Have had a More Rewards Amex with them for three months now. Was only given a $500 limit with several paid charge offs that were two years old, no collections, mid 600 scores, just 2 inquiries then (they pull TransUnion for new accounts) and roughly your income.

Ive read through your post and think you may have a marginal chance of approval. I don't know how they will respond to an open collection and unpaid charge offs. If it were me, I would take care of those first, but I know everyone's situation is different.

Re: NFCU Approval Odds with dirty file

@OmarGB9  one of the most important things I've learned in all the reading I've done on these forums (and they are full of a wealth of knowledge) is to always keep in mind that everyone's profile is different and underwriting is always changing. Try not to fall into the trap of thinking "this persons report is similar (or worse) than mine and they were approved so I should be too.

Lol you've got a good point. I don't know why I was thinking that. Smiley Very Happy

Hmm so your profile is somewhat similar to mine, minus the unpaid chargeoffs and collection. I do know not to try to compare myself to others, and even if I have a similar profile to someone that was approved, that doesn't mean that I would be approved as well. I just like to do research and gather DPs in order to get a pretty good idea about what to expect and whether it's worth the HP or not.

As for taking care of my derogs, of course that is the plan, but they're not exactly small amounts I can pay off whenever I want. Smiley Sad The collection is for about $7.5k (down from $9.2k a year and a half ago), one CO for $6.2k (originally $7.4k), one CO for $2.3k (originally $4.2k), one CO for $1.5k (this is the one I will be able to PIF next month), and one CO for $1.4k (originally $2.8k). So my plan was to pay off that $1.5k CO, wait for the update, apply AZEO, hopefully get a decent score bump, and then apply for the cash rewards, and depending on what they say, apply for the secured if I get denied and am offered it/able to. The reason I'd like to do this is to start my NFCU CC relationship now and once I pay off those other derogs and they age more and my overall profile improves, go for the flagship and hopefully get that coveted $25k SL. Also to refinance my truck with Navy possibly next year. Smiley Happy

Re: NFCU Approval Odds with dirty file

@OmarGB9  I wish you all the luck whatever you decide! I haven't had to interact with Navy at all so I can't speak to the customer experience, but my card has worked every time I swiped it, so there's that! Also, they gave me a chance when others probably wouldn't have!

Keep plugging away at those CO's. Trust me, I know how much of a burden they can be. But you can do it...and with each one done watch yourself being able to reap the rewards!

Re: NFCU Approval Odds with dirty file

So I called this morning, but they said they don't really have a "prequalify/pre-approval tool" per say. They just plug some basic info in and basically just offer me all the cards they have...not specifically targeted offers. Did I maybe word it wrong when I asked them about it?

@OmarGB9, Some Navy CSR are not really informed on the prequal, I know they have it,

after reading the massive Navy thread. HUCA .. maybe call back?

Here is the Navy thread

Re: NFCU Approval Odds with dirty file

@OmarGB9  They have an online tool you can check...go to there website but do not log in. Navigate over to loans and credit cards then credit cards. As you scroll down the page you should see an offer to check for prequalified offers in the middle of the page. At that point it will ask you to log in and will ask some income specific questions.

HOWEVER, most have said this tool is not very accurate.

The better option according to most is to simply call CSR and ask if there are any Pre-Approvals on your account. I have read this is more solid than online, but as I said earlier, I have never so much as had to call them.

Some others on here may just recommend to apply for it if that's what you want. It's the only real way to know and it's only a HP!

Good luck!! Let us know how it turns out! I applied for CLI yesterday but no word yet. Have read reports about it taking a day or two to process. Not sure about new accounts if those are instant or not.

@Anonymous, Great advice! .. All 3 of my approvals were cold apps, instant approvals.

Re: NFCU Approval Odds with dirty file

I must be blind or I'm just not getting that "offer" on the credit cards screen. All I get is the list of cards. And as I mentioned upthread, I did call a CSR, and they also didn't give me a specific preapproved offer, they merely listed ALL the cards they offer...lol. That was their "prequalify tool;" ask some basic info and then give me all their cards. Does that mean I don't actually have any preapprovals?
