NFCU CLI or new card

My daughter currently has the cashrewards since she was 18 with at $1500 limit. Now shes 21, has never asked for a CLI and has one other credit card, student loans and a two and half year old car loan which is paid off (sold) but has not been reported yet. I'm thinking her score will drop when the paid car reports to her reports. So before that happens she wants to either obtain a new card or ask for a CLI.

Her Equifax is 673 and her TU is 640. If she applies for a CLI first how long will she have to wait to apply for a new NFCU card?

Thanks in advance

Re: NFCU CLI or new card

Hello, I would ask for the CLI and also try the Discover pre-approval. If she is approved I would apply for that. Good Luck. @Islandtraveler12 read this link for more info. https://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Card-Applications/Navy-Federal-Thread-for-CLI-and-Additional...

She doesn't need to wait. Since she's had her first Navy card three years she's more than met the 6 months required between card applications.

Re: NFCU CLI or new card

Thanks. I couldn't remember if they were still doing the 91/3 regardless of accounts. None of us have applied for any new NF cards for last two years as we are maxed on the three except for her.

I failed to mentioned she has a Cap One Journey and they sent her a message stating she's qualified for the Quilksilver due to her excellent payment history. She has had that card too for last three years.

As far as I know they are still doing the 91/3. I thought the link would help. Good Luck building her credit.

Re: NFCU CLI or new card

If the loan is closing this month you won't have time, but she has a billing cycle to spare she could use the AZEO technique -- pay off all her credit cards before the end of their billing cycles except one, leave a token amount on the last, let the last card report less than 4% utilization, and then pay it off before the due date. It's basically the credit score equivalent of putting on dress clothes for an interview.

Re: NFCU CLI or new card

She should be fine to get a CLI from Navy. As far as a new card, that'll really depend on her wants/needs.

By the way, those scores you quoted in your first post, by chance are they scores from Credit Karma? If so pay them no mind, and pull up her true FICO scores either from here (MyFICO) or Experian.

Re: NFCU CLI or new card

No those are her Myfico scores. This morning I actually logged back in and her TU went up to 694. I has disputed an item yesterday on TU site and it was removed yesterday.

She took the plunged and applied for the NF Amex earlier and got approved for 11,400. Asked for a CLI and got the review message.

Oh okay. The reason I asked about CK is because you referenced only EQ and TU, which are the 2 scores provided by CK (although they are Vantage 3.0 scores, not FICO scores) and I was just wondering why you didn't mention EX.

Anyway, congrats to DD on the huge approval! And good luck on the CLI. Smiley Happy
