Well, Joined NFCU and PenFed this week. Was told I was approved at NFCU for secured card but declined until I closed a couple other cards (open sky and Credit One). I was told to try for unsecured card with my EQ score and was declined today. Not sure if I should recon or not. I am fine with putting $500 onto a secured card and waiting a year until it can graduate to unsecured and go from there. Im still in the rebuilding phase and do not need a bunch of cards.
I joined PenFed and will keep my deposit with them until my credit report is clean and have a well rounded profile. It might take a couple years but I will have been with them for a couple years at that point and that I am ok with.

Like yourself, I have developed a longterm perspective.
I have identified vendors who I want to use, and am preparing myself to be approved, when they are ready, on their terms.
Hence I have already become a member of Pen Fed, opened a Savings Account, and funded it.
As my scores rise, and as I demonstrate that I am responsible and worthy of being extended credit, I will gladly accept an offer when they are ready to bestow one upon me.
Congratz on your self discipline and vision!
