I am soooooooo mad. I applied for a NFCU CC on Sunday and they pulled TU and declined me on Monday. I sent in a Recon letter Monday and lo and behold I get an alert from Equifax this morning (Tuesday) that they hard pulled me again for the same application.
I wanted their card but not so bad that I wanted to use two hard pulls for it. The point is I can still be denied and will have wasted two pulls. I am assuming that when you apply you are at the mercy of these institutions to do whatever they want but when considering the same app why pull again within less than 48 hours. It seems they are searching to find something to deny the app for since I proved the income they had issue with in the original app. I guess next they will pull Experian.
I have heard that Cap One does this but I did not know NFCU practiced these double pulls. I have never wanted a card so bad that I wanted a double pull.
Anyone familiar with this practice by NFCU? What gives??? When you recon with them is it their practice to pull another report as if something changed within a few hours?
I find that weird on all levels that they would double pull on a recon, usually they just send it back to the underwriters to look at it again. Now I been with them since 1999 if there is one thing I do know is they pull Equifax more than Transunion. Transunion pulls from NFCU to me is hit or miss, I never been pulled by NFCU via transunion thats since 1999 every one has been Equifax for me. On the other hand my DW gets hit on both, but her reports are more sketchy.
I see it like this if NFCU is pulling Transunion on you its because your already borderline to them, no offense or anything but they are Equifax dominant and they only pull Transunion because those scores are more friendier than if they used Equifax. NFCU uses Fico 4 scores to determine your CLI and products.
Im sorry to hear for your troubles but this is unlike NFCU, to me the issue is NFCU opening up accounts via navy league since that influx everything has been getting messed up to be honest. Its the same way USAA is now closing account for fake credentials, NFCU will end up going through the same thing in another year if they keep letting people in via navy league.

I'm sorry your recon didn't work out. ![]()
Unfortunately, there are many posts on here where people ended up with an additional HP after a NFCU recon. IMO it's a weakness in their process... they HP for almost anything and everything, including recons.
For what it's worth, many people who have been denied by NFCU have reported that sometimes just a few months later they reapply and are approved. You should be getting a letter that will outline any issues that might need to be addressed.

NFCU pulled EQ for my credit card when I applied last year, but for the last few months most people on here have reported having a HP on TU for credit cards, and EQ for the CLOC. EQ is also pulled for credit card CLIs when they have to do a HP (I had this happen myself in September).
From what I've read in various threads, recently for recons they tend to pull the other bureau (whichever one wasn't originally pulled) or occasionally they will pull the same one a second time. ![]()

For membership my CC, CLOC and all CLI all have been Equifax I have never been pulled a Transunion report thats going back since 1999 when I was in the Navy. My DW on the other hand has had both pulled, originally Equifax for her membership and first CC, her second CC was Transunion, and the LOC was back on Equifax. Most of her CLI attempt which wasnt instant ended up being Transunion pulls, learned that the AR is not guranteed CLI every 3 months. I tend to feel if they are pulling your Transunion they are just trying to approve you. They tend to favor Equifax more at the end for most of there products.

I appreciate that your own experience has been exclusively EQ pulls (as I mentioned my own was an EQ pull last year for my a credit card) but the last few months people have reported almost exclusively being pulled on TU for new credit card accounts (note the 'almost'... there have been a couple of exceptions here and there).
Also keep in mind that the OP stated that EQ wasn't pulled until the recon... which indicates (at least to me) that they were likely trying to work out an approval but were unable to get there. A TU pull itself on the initial application certainly isn't an indicator of being borderline, though.
Unfortunately, this is not unusual at all for NFCU. Before i learned better. 7 had almost 9 pulls between TU and EQ when I opened my membership and applied for a cc and navcheck. Madethe mistake of reconning starting limit on cash rewards card and loc denial. All within 3 to 4 days of each membership. They are very very HP happy. But just remember HPs dont last forever and approvals and limits can grow. I now hv cash rewards 21500, go rewards 15000, navcheck 15000.

I understand what your talking about I been keeping up with alot of those threads, but I dont post much. The question I would of had was how many of those people went via navy league and not through NFCU itself ? I think that's something of a issue alot of people been trying to get in via navy league and not via NFCU itself knowing they wouldnt qualify regardless. I wonder how NFCU is handling Navy league applicants.
To me, and I been keeping up with alot of the people who has had issues are trying to go in via Navy League only makes sense NFCU never fully implented there policies over there. People on here just so happen to stumble on a way in and abused it that just being honest and they werent ready for that.
If you look through credit pulls database you will see dating back to 2006 that Transunion pulls was rare and few in between, since the navy league there has been a influx of Transunion pulls on a regular basis in 2016.

Sorry OP I definitely understand your frustration,.it makes no sense why they need to pull again when they just done one 2 days prior and with your profile what could they find skeptical about that . It makes no sense . They have not pulled again on me for recon so this is a new one on me .
Well lesson learned for me. As for others they can see that there is the possiblity of this happening so it won't be a shock. The good thing about MyFico is that it is a great way for others to have a heads up on issues they might have to deal with in the future. Hopefully this was just a weird thing that happened and won't become the norm.
