NFCU Flagship Denied

Tried to get the 40k point bonus and got denied.

This to me is EXTREMELY shocking!

733 TU 9 score

roughly 20% dti

2 year member of NFCU

9k ran through my NFCU cash rewards in the past 3 months always pif zero balance as we speak

8k in my checking account

nearly 1k direct deposit weekly

zero collections

(1) 30 day late from 2 years ago

3% utilization on all cards

I honestly thought I was a prime candidate for this card or another NFCU card just hit my 91/3 and wanted the second card and got completely denied on the website application and got the 7-10 day letter. A little bummed I won't lie!

Should I recon this?

I am so sorry. This just happened to me, too. After I was denied for Flagship, I applied and was instantly approved for cashRewards.

My denial letter states that I "do not qualify for the minimum required credit line" for the Flagship credit card. I did NFCU dirty in my younger days and now things are back on track but they still make it difficult to get CLIs and new CCs...etc. ANYHOO, I did send in a recon letter, though. I read on the message boards that we can request a product change from cashRewards to Flagship. I also asked if they can just transfer some of the credit limit from my other NFCU CCs to meet the minimum. I can post and update when I hear back.

I don't think you requesting a reconsideration would hurt. You never know unless you try. Good luck!

Addl Notes: I did NFCU dirty years ago (but paid them back every penny), started rebuilding my credit in 2019. I keep at least $25k in checking at all times, have higher limits on other credit cards, never carry a balance/pay in full on all credit cards. I recently went on an app spree after we made it through escrow so I do have a few inquiries on my reports.

I have settled with collection agencies for other credit accounts, primarily medical debts, but this was several years ago and they were pay for deletes. Since that time I have not had any negatives on my credit report. So I am at a loss here, my credit profile is 98% squeakly clean minus the 30 day late. If I had to guess why they denied me it was the fact that I refinanced my private 35k loan and it was a new account added in the last week to my credit report. They may think I tried to rack up too much debt recently but I actually got a better rate at much lower payments which strengthed me financially. I am still just trying to understand why I have read so many success stories with worse profiles and then my denial......

Your 30 day late is fairly recent - from 2 years ago.

Is the account associated with the original loan that you just refinanced still reporting as being open?

Re: NFCU Flagship Denied

I'm in nearly the same boat.

TU at 756, put thousands on my cash rewards over the last year, member for 15 months. Tried for a platinum yesterday to BT the last of my cc debt (7K) over from Disco. Got approved, but only for $2,600 at their highest interest on that card. (14.99%) So just barely got in. Not feeling the Navy love others experience. Hit my cash rewards for a limit increase and went to review. I'm guessing it will be a no go. I'm not going to bother recon-ning, clearly there is something with my profile that they don't like, but they have no reason to deny me entirely so they don't.

Just wanted you to know you're not the only one!

Best,

TGG

no the original loan was closed, it was a student loan from 2007, refinanced it in march of this year, it was closed showing pif, and the new refinance loan just hit my TU report last week. This is my only guess, but like I said better interest rates and new terms lowered my payment in half, so it just improved my dti more.
