So, I joined NFCU through NLSD last August and once I was approved for membership I apped for a cashRewards card and it came back approved for $10,100. Awesome! I also apped for a CLOC with Navy (only $2000, nothing flashy). All is well with the world.
Fast forward to present day and for the life of me I can't get NFCU to give me a CLI. I've tried twice now (once after each AR). Finally, on my last denial letter it finally came back that I'm just at my max with Navy at the moment. Ok, well I've only been using my income (a very meager $30,000 a year) so this time I decide to app for a new credit card instead (since I've read so many success stories about Navy denying CLI's on existing cards but extending another credit card to members here on myFICO) but this time I add in my husband's income (since with combined income we hit right at $100,000 annually). I figure that by adding in his income they are more likely to give me another card. Basically, I just want to use this card to take advantage of the bank transfer promo they have going on until the end of February. That card wouldn't be used for anything else. Yet, no dice.
I wait patiently for my denial letter and see this: "Excessive Credit Obligations In Relation to Income (PRIMARY). ouch. Ok, so when I was filling out the app I put in my income and under extra income I added my husband's, was I not supposed to do this? Should I just have put it all under my income and when they asked for proof sent in our pay stubs/taxes? Should I call and see if I can get a reconsideration for this app or just leave it alone? I really don't want another HP (they pulled TU for this app and while it is my highest score at a measly 680 it also has the most inquiries on it (16) so I would rather not have another one done just for them to still say it is still denied) I but I would unfreeze my TU and take one more if you guys think my app might be approved. I know that no one can tell me for sure but I just want to see what the general concensus was before I called Navy. Also, do you guys think they will want to pull a different bureau? Because if that is the case I'll just chalk it up as a loss.
And for those who are wondering why I don't just balance transfer to my already existing Navy card, I acutally have a balance on it at the moment and don't want to have to juggle a current balance and balance transfer. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
On a side note, I tried to get my cashRewards card PC'd to the nRewards card (hoping for a lower APR) and they told me that they have discontinued that card. Weird. I haven't heard anyone (here on the myFICO boards) mention anything about their nrewards card being axed it but I guess Navy just isn't offering new apps for the card anymore? Or, in my case, cards to be PC'd to the nrewards? What does that mean for the people who currently have the card? Anyway, I figured I'd see if anyone else had heard this or if the CSR I spoke to was just mistaken...

I'm sorry you've having problems getting approved for a second card. ![]()
I'll let others chime in on your chances at a recon, but I want to add that if you freeze TU they are known to pull another bureau, sometimes even EX (which is extremely rare for them). There are several older threads where somebody reported this happening, and a fairly recent one here:
http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Cards/Navy-Federal-now-checks-Experian/td-p/4800125
Basically, if you recon and definitely don't want to risk a HP, you'll need to make sure all three bureaus are on ice. (Note that with NFCU, most recons result in a HP; actually with NFCU most anything is a new HP... it's their one weakness, IMO.)
congratulations, I just now got this
Loan Type: cashRewards Visa
Unfortunately, your request for credit has not met Navy Federal lending criteria for approval. You will receive additional notification by mail at your address of record within the next 5-7 normal mail delivery days which will provide an explanation for the decision. This letter will also explain the appeals process that you may initiate., Can't for the life of me get approved through them but I did just get approved for navchek only asked for the minimum so guess thats a start

I'm sorry to hear it didn't work out. ![]()
I forgot to mention in my first post that there's an excellent thread with lots of information specific to NCFU additional cards and CLIs:
It's monitored closely by @Creditaddict, who is a fantastic resource for all things NFCU. ![]()
Thanks UncleB, I will definately look at the link you posted, have a great day ![]()

I apped for NFCU Platinum MC and received the exact same letter. Didn't recon just waited 90 days.
Applied for cashReward exactly after 90 days, went to review and approved for 14K with no docs.
As far as I can tell, there was no significant changes to my report, infact my utilities have actually gone up...
