NFCU Requirements?

Hi,

My father was a diver in the Navy, but we have been estranged for most of my life. They ask the last 4 digits of his ss#, but I don't have that information. Or, at least it might take some digging to find out. My question is, do I even qualify if he doesn't have an account there? Or, are there ways around getting in with NFCU?

Thanks for your replies!!

Re: NFCU Requirements?

I would call them.  My Mom is Retired USAF and only uses USAA. I called NFCU since online asked for her member number or something to that degree.  My apologies but I don't recall them asking for my Mom's SSN.

Re: NFCU Requirements?

Did your father retire from the Navy? Or was he discharged without retirement?

If he retired, you are set. He does not need to have an account, just his name should suffice for you to open an account.

As StormWolf says it matters whether he retired or not.  Unfortunately just service alone is not enough.

As for your question about as around a getting in, please don't try anything anyone might suggest if it's not a valid qualification for membership.  NFCU has a very active security department who regularly monitors memberships to check for qualification.  They have shut down many people after the fact and closed out accounts.  They are very strict.  Hopefully your dad retired and you'll be able to get in as it is a great CU.

You're right. I won't try any wrongful ways to get in, just hoped I might be able to. Looks like it's a negative, though. I'm pretty sure my Mother told me he went AWOL at some point so...I should have figured. Nothing really honorable about the man. This was sort of my last ditch effort at getting something of value out of the guy. Smiley Sad

Oh well.

I'm very sorry to hear.  While I love NFCU there are a lot of other very good credit unions that do have 'backdoor' ways in.  They may not be as forgiving as NFCU when it comes to credit issues but they are out there.

I'm sorry too. Smiley Sad

But that's ok...because you always have options.

Look into other Credit Unions.  Like in your State's county, or I see alot of people here on DCU or NASA CU.

Re: NFCU Requirements?

I think I might have gotten in!!! My grandfather was in the Army, and was Honorably Discharged. I have all of his old paperwork since we were so close I was responsible for handling all of his stuff when he passed. If I can find his DD-214...I'm in!!!

He has to have been a retiree drawing a military pension. Service alone doesn't qualify.

Re: NFCU Requirements?

Meaning he would have had to be a careered military? All I know is he was a Railroad Engineer most of his life after the Army.
