NFCU denials.

So about 8 months ago I joined the Navy League to join NFCU and just never really persued it, well about 2 weeks I went into the branch and they submitted the paper application for me.. It was approved about a week later and then that same day I got my dad in..

Right after we both submitted apps for the Platinum card and my app came back fully denied (wasn't expecting anything), and his app came back asking for POI which we explained to them that due to him being on disibility right now (he's pending a surgery on his anckle), and that we would be more than happy to provide tax returns (because he doesn't have super recent pay stubs, been out for about a month now), and the rep told him that she would forward it to a Loan Officer, and hours later it was denied for... wait for it... "Failure to provide requested income docs" which is not true, so the rep this time said in order to have it reconsidered he would have to reply to the online message with POI, this time the rep said that he could provide his EDD income statements to prove income.. He did include my moms income, and appearently he was suppose to only use his income and if he wanted to be able to use his wifes income she would have to be a co-signer on the account.. I hope this is readable lol.. Needless he is dissapointed with NFCU and is contemplating weather to even persue this..  They pulled his TU at over a 800 FICO also.

Re: NFCU denials.

Navy is definitely worth pursuing, but you gotta play a game sometimes when dealing with CSR's, although Navy has excellent customer service sometimes things get confused or fall through the cracks. I would suggest having your dad and mom apply for a joint credit card if it will make the process simpler. While most banks allow you to count your household income for applications, Navy and other credit unions will not for a single person application. Best of luck hope it gets worked out and your dad gets an approval with a nice SL.

Willwar14 - This is completely untrue, "he was suppose to only use his income and if he wanted to be able to use his wifes income she would have to be a co-signer on the account".

They tried to pull that on me too. Per the CARD Act you are allowed to include household income such as a family member (wife) to who's income you have a reasonable expectation of access to it.

Creditguy - It's not optional to allow it its federal law and if they issue credit cards they need to abide by it. It however does not need to allow you to use household income for loans only credit cards per the Federally CARD Act. It doesn't need to be joint at all.

Re: NFCU denials.

I got the same answer about the household income last week. HOWEVER what they did say is that I could use my income and use my husbands are additional income (there's a separate box), I didn't though, I decided to just use my own though. Maybe try that angle? I know when I mentioned tax returns, they suggested that that was proof if I was self employed but not really used otherwise.

Starting Score (Oct '13): 473 (EX), Current Score: MyFICO EX: 713 EQ: 715 TU: 717, Goal Score: 740 & above. Capital One Quicksilver: $2250, Discover IT: $9500, Chase Amazon Store Card: $2600, Care Credit: $15000, Barclays Rewards: $1850 BCE: 20,000, PenFed Visa Sig: 7,000 NFCU cashRewards $24,600

Re: NFCU denials.

On mine I always use the box with other income and I write "Fiancee's Income Per CARD Act" so they know what additional income and why I'm including it. But yes it is 100% allowed per federal regulations and to force you to do a joint application solely because you'd like to include your wife's income is violating federal regulations.

Re: NFCU denials.

I agree withMatt4200 , unfortunately I have had my CC with them for going on 7 months and I am still stuck at the 500 SL I was approved for back then , although my reports are now clean compared to when approved and my scores have increased drastically, they always deny my request for CLI and I believe it's mostly on the fact of my income , bc I am a Stay at home mom and use my Fiance's income . I believe that they should have to abide by the Card Act also if they are going to issue cards but I don't think they do sometimes

Re: NFCU denials.

Hmm that's really odd because my personal income is about 26k and my fiancée's is 27k combined we make 53k and on my card I asked for a CLI and they gave me an increase to 13.5k the score they pulled was 669 from TU. I guarantee they used both incomes I listed to allow this CLI because 26k alone with a 669 TU and collections doesn't justify an increase to 13.5k.

YMMV but so far the CARD Act has helped me a lot.

Re: NFCU denials.

Well I have no personal income just my Fiance's income which we share several bank accounts to which I can prove that I have access and pay my bills from . USAA doesn't bat an eye at it . But when I was approved with Navy I had to recon my approval and had to go Into a long detail about my income and they asked if I could prove it and I said yes I could send bank statements . They never asked back then but I have tried 3 times for CLI and all denied. Now of course the reasons for denial don't say outright that it's my income . It's reasons that don't even really pertain to me , and one of the times it was bc I asked too early which I'm fine with that .
I have decided not to request a CLI until my account is closer to a year old . Bc I can't take any more HP hits for nothing . I am "new" to revolving credit which is another reason I'm thinking they are hesitate. My oldest revolving acct is only at a bit over a year old . And I have opened about 6 accts in 2016 during my rebuild so i can see they would be wary of me so I'm just gonna keep on moving forward and hope one day they open up to me.

Re: NFCU denials.

I would give it time I don't think it's the income I think it's the lack of account history. My oldest account is a 4 year old student loan my oldest revolving account is probably 6 months old. I'm really thankful for my student loans boosting my credit.
