NFCU flagship denial help

Acouple Weeks ago called up and applied for NFCU membership, which after coulpe days later i was approved. That same day after doing a ton of research on NFCU Credit cards on here and people being approved for crazy high limits with really low credit scores, collections, late payments bankruptcy's etc.
When i applied my TU score was 706, 3 recent inquies, 7 new accounts past 24 months, 7% UTI,  high 6 figure income, all ontime payments past 4 years,  have 2 late payments from 2014 and 1 late from 2015. Oldesd account 17 years +, AAOA 5 years around.
figure i should have no issue getting the card, with compared to other members there posted DP and the SL they recieved. After i applied got a 24 hour notice then an hour or so later got the denial. Right after when in to the online message system ask for a recon and they said no sorry you do not qualify. So decided to wait to get the denial letter to see what it said for the acutal denail reason. To my surprise the letter actually only stated  for the denial reason as  " does not qualify for minmum starting limit"  Which i have never gotten a denial letter like this before. Uusually will say to many new accounts or to low credit score  etc. It said That my NFCU score was a 301. Which compared to other members i have seen posted on here with NFCU scores low as  180 and getting apporved for $15,000 starting limits. i go back on the online again message  plead my case again asking for a reconsideration, which they said the same thing no i do not qualify and again asked for more clarity and they wouldnt give me an answer.  The person said you do not fit our lending criteria for the minimum starting limit.  no explantination as to why i do not fit that criteria.
I thought i am suppposed to recieve specfic reasons why i do not qualify for a credit card which i have not gotten as of yet. So i am little concered  you can say and confused on their lending process. As i see alot on people on here  being approved for massive limits with extremely low credit scores ,NFCu scores and what not.
I thought banks by law  have to give you specific reasons for your denial,  Just saying i do not qualify for the min starting limit i do not think counts as a specific denial reason?   Has anyone received this type of denial from NFCU before ?
thanks

Re: NFCU flagship denial help

Sounds like they gave you a reason for denial.

Most people posting about large limits on NFCU cards tend to receive those limits on second cards. First cards with them often sway towards lower CLs. The Flagship has a minimum CL of $5000.

Try for one of their other cards and you might see success. Double back to the Flagship in 6 months or so then.

Ok when did you obtain the last CC with Navy? I'd give it atleast 90 days if not 180. Then go back for the 2nd CC. If I'm following you correctly. You applied too soon.

Re: NFCU flagship denial help

The Flagship has stricter UW due to the $5K minimum SL. It sounds like NFCU literally only found one thing wrong — that the minimum limit was too much for your profile based on their criteria.

The good news is their other cards are all on looser UW since they don’t have a minimum SL. I would look at the offerings and pick one. The cashRewards is a flat 1.5% on everything with no minimum redemption while the rest of the cards have $50 minimums so that’s the one that I would go for. Give it 6 months with that card and app for the Flagship and you should be golden.

NFCU wants a relationship before they’ll extend a lot of credit.

Also NFCU will likely HP you again, NFCU loves their HPs.

Re: NFCU flagship denial help

These banks make no sense to me sometimes. Except for 2 cards all my other cards starting limits have been an average of $10K plus. I was approved for the first tech odyssey card with a 25k SL and my scores and profile were worse at the time then they are now When I was approved for that card, and I heard they are very conservative.
The person I was originally speaking with said , if I should apply for a different card with in 30 days they will use the same credit pull. I applied for the Go Rewards yesterday and doesn’t seem to be the case because I got an additional HP on my TU now.

Usually when your denied they give you a reason to many inquires, to many new accounts etc so you know what they are looking for in a sense but in this case, there is really no explanation as to what caused the denial. they are saying I don’t qualify for the minimum limit, but as to why they still haven’t said. They are not clarifying as to why I do not meet criteria for the minimum starting limit for the card. Which I thought by law banks have to give you detailed reasons why you are denied.

Re: NFCU flagship denial help

It’s unfortunate but I would say you simply applied for a NFCU cc too soon. Wait until June or July, then you should be all set.
Also, the Flagship is usually a second or third card from what i’ve seen.

I get your frustration but NFCU does things differently.

Hopefully you get the Go Rewards. Keep that and use it for 6 months and then you will be primed for a massive SL on the Flagship.

As for using the same HP, I believe the only way that NFCU will do that is if you call them and even then it’s likely case by case. Standard protocol with NFCU is to expect an HP for any credit request.

Re: NFCU flagship denial help

Banks by law only have to give a reason why they deny you. There’s nothing in the law that says it has to be detailed. Stating you don’t meet their minimum requirement for a specific card is reason enough.

I suggest stop comparing yourself to others. It’ll just drive you bonkers. Get a card because you want the card, not because others got the card at what you perceive as a worse profile than yours.

NFCU is a relationship bank. They don’t know you or your spend habits yet. In time, they will reward you for being a member. So give them a chance to know you and you won’t regret it.

|| AmX Cash Magnet $40.5K || NFCU CashRewards $30K || Discover IT $24.7K || Macys $24.2K || NFCU CLOC $15K || NFCU Platinum $15K || CitiCostco $12.7K || Chase FU $12.7K || Apple Card $7K || BOA CashRewards $6K
