NFCU turned me down :-(

During my app spree several weeks ago, I'd applied for an "nRewards" Visa through Navy Federal. I got my denial letter today. Ugh. They cited the late pays on my auto loan with them, as well as the two collections I have remaining. This, also, in spite of the comment I was able to include with my app, about my currently being in active rebuild mode.

I did get approved recently for a CapOne Platinum @ $3000 CL, though, which rather mitigates this disappointment. Oh, well. Onward and upward. :-)

About the same as below, in my siggy. Looks like we started roughly around the same place, both score-wise and time-wise.

Send them a message and plead your case. Many have been successful going that route. Explain any baddies and what you have done to improve your credit. Good luck.

Four late pays:  Nov 2012, Feb 2013, May 2013, Nov 2014. (May 2013 was the month I quit my highly stressful/low paying job.) Loan originated Nov 2010. I mailed a very articulate and grateful GW letter last week to ask forgiveness for late pays, but I'm not sure how much they can do, based on how the laws are written. It's my understanding that if they report at all, they must report "correct" info.

(Hmmmmm... I just noticed that November seems to be a bad month for me, financially speaking. Seasonal Affective Disorder.)

Well I would wait another year for them.  Be very good with them.  They will be good back but no more late pays.  NFCU can be very good to you so I would treat them with the first priority....

Keep in mind moving forward that they *can* remove late pays; the law requires that they report late payments no longer than 7 years to your report - not that it *has* to be reported. Important distinction, which is why a goodwill letter is sometimes a great option. Don't give up!

Re: NFCU turned me down :-(

I got approved for a CashRewards Visa for $1000 (low I know) with a 591. My score has grown since but I haven't gotten a CLI. This account was opened in Febuary.

You should ask for a CLI. I got approved for an nRewards card last year with a SL of $500. I was just happy to have been approved since I was rebuilding my credit. I held the card in good standing for 8 months with no credit limit increase. I decided to give it a try. I asked for a CL of $2500. They countered at $12000! So if you've been good with them and are otherwise good everywhere else I'd just ask for one.
