NFCU

So after reading so much good stuff on NFCU on this forum I have been trying to get in with a unsecured card with them for the past year to no avail. Applied twice for an unsecured, once in Feb ‘17 and then again a week or so ago, both denied.

This past time I tried to send an SM to recon and included my income for past month, but they responded back that they took another look and are keeping with the original denial.   I just received the letter today,

Delinquent past or present credit obligations with others(primary)

Derogatory Public Record(s) (primary)

I have three CC collections from 2015

Chapter 7, discharged Oct ‘10

I’m assuming they threw the public record on there as its ungood to have collections after a bk. They have my internal NFCU score listed as 302 which doesnt seem terrible.  My regular three scores are all in the 605-615 range.

There are a few things on my reports I think I can get cleaned up and wanted to try and get something settled on my three collection accounts so I figure the soonest I would try again with NFCU would be in the summer, but should I just go straight for their secured card?  Or I wait for the BK to fall off in 2020?

Re: NFCU

Id work on getting those collections removed or at least maybe wait for the bk to fall off. One thing with Navy though, they are worth the hp they so love so just try to present your profile at its best and hopefully youll get your cardSmiley Happy

Re: NFCU

So Ive heard about NFCU. Funny thing is no one raved about them years ago when I was on active duty, but here everyone is crazy about them(for good reasons). Just need to get the foot in the door.

Will see what I can work out on the collections. If not, maybe secured card until the BK drops off may make some sense.

Re: NFCU

Why not just go with secured? It will unsecure. I had my mom start that way. 1 yr later its unsecure and she just got a CLI.

Re: NFCU

I wouldnt mind secured with Navy because we know it leads to better stuff. Lol, Dad too had Navy Fed years ago but for some reason let them go. I finally convinced him to join being a vet and he was sble to get a 6k VisaSmiley Happy. I need to see if we can try the cli soonSmiley Happy

Re: NFCU

It may turn out to be the best way for me to establish the relationship, I highly doubt I can get a PFD on my collections. Honestly, my luck would be I run it perfectly, low utl, pif and time comes around for review and it doesn't graduate. I know I could just at that point apply for a unsecured with that relationship, but much cleaner to graduate the secured.

Re: NFCU

It happens. I have had a PenFed account dating back to 2008 that I havent touched since then. Just created a login yesterday. But have seen people say PenFed is more conservative then NFCU, so I think I will give them a try in a couple years when BK drops.

Best of luck to your dad on that CLI!

Re: NFCU

Yes I would get a secured card right now. It will get unsecured before the BK falls off. Good luck!
