So I decided to see if I could start a savings and a new checking with NFCU, have family in military so I called and applied, was accepted, gonna move my savings and checking over to nfcu, I have not apped for credit card yet but once I move everything over and the dust settles I will app for a card with them, I want to stay in the garden for the remainder of the year but wouldn’t mind a card with them! What is a good card to start with them?

Re: NFCU

Congratulations on your membership!

Any card that would suit your spend is good. Don't go for the Flagship. It might be harder to get as a first card with a $5K minimum.

You can always call CSR when you're ready to apply to see if you have any pre-quals.

Re: NFCU

Didn’t know they did pre quals? I might call and see then, I’m trying to stay disciplined and stay in the garden the rest of the year, working on getting my score to mid 700s by January 2021

It's a recent thing. If you have offers, it's a good gauge to see where you stand approval wise, absent credit limit.

Re: NFCU

As suggested upthread, you can contact them to see if they have any CC pre-qualified offers. Keep in mind though, it's hit or miss. Some agents are aware of the option while others may not be, or you may not have any offers.

By the same token, do some research to determine which type of card would be the right fit based on your spending habits/lifestyle and whether you are looking for specific rewards. Bear in mind there's different minimum redemption thresholds depending on the CC product.

It depends what you're looking for. If you want a cash back card, their cash back card is ok. If you want a no-fee low-interest card, their platinum card is good.

Re: NFCU

I product changed the cash rewards to the more rewards, as I feel I get more back.

Re: NFCU

I took a cash rewards for my first in case I got a teaser limit and also to replace my cap one QS (so either a visa/mc with cash back). My goal is definitely the more rewards. It will be great for when I'm not in a 5% quarter.

Desired BK recovery line up complete 7/12/2021. Planning to garden until 8/2023 and potentially try for AMEX.

Re: NFCU

Welcome to the navy fed family. I think the credit card you chose should be based on what you're trying to do. Each CC has it owns pros and cons.
