Re: Navy Federal Datapoints Thread for Membership, CLIs, and Credit Card Products

1. So just to be clear here I open up my Navy Fed Flagship Rewards card account on 9/1/2021 the earliest I can apply for a 8k increase would be 12/2/21 right?

2. So I already have a Amex More Rewards with 15k. Was only approved for the Flagship at 1k(no bankrupcies)Smiley Frustrated So is it best to apply for both CLI's or should I wait to get the Flagship 1k up?

Navy Federal Response 09/02/2021 : Thank you for your message about the credit limit assigned to your newly opened credit card account. Based on the information provided in your application and Navy Federal's lending policies, your credit card's credit limit is at the maximum credit limit you qualify for at this time. You may apply for an increase to this credit limit at any time, however, Navy Federal typically requires a new account to be open at least three months before approving an increase to its credit limit.

3. How does the 91/3 rule affect applying for multiple CLI request example am I able to request new first time CLI request on my Amex More Rewards and Amex Flagship on 12/2/21 or can I only do one at a time?

4. Ok most important will this be a SP as long as I request online or thru the mobile app?

I thought so too! It's weird as I have no bad history with Navy Federal my DP's aren't too bad either so Idk they were being pretty tight for a while there.

I apologize for having to ask this, but after dozens and dozens of pages in the old thread and some other internet searches, I am now wondering about this "3 full statements after the last one [credit card app]." Smiley Happy

My first statement was ~8-10 days short of a full month (card issued on the 29th of one month, statement closed on the 21st of the subsequent month).

I'll hit 91 days a few days after my upcoming statement.

I have to wait an entire month for the next app, because the first statement was a "partial" (albeit a 75% partial)?!?!?!

I've got a theory that it isn't necessarily a "full" statement, but some other metric NFCU is looking at.  My family has always been successful at getting a CLI approved 91/3 even without 20+ days reporting on the 1st statement.  The thing I've noticed is that NFCU showed a "minimum payment due" on those first partial statements (we usually use the card the day or next day it arrives to test it out, so we typically have to pay at least the minimum on the first statement).

If you don't mind being a tester of this theory, then can you check to see if you show anything other than a "$0 minimum payment due" on that 1st statement?  If you show something due, then ask for a CLI around the 91 day mark and report back to us.

If it turns out the CLI is denied, you should still be able to request for a CLI after the 4th statement cuts and still be successful.  My DD asked a few days too early on a 6 month CLI, and was able to be approved a few days later on her 2nd attempt.

I'll be able to test this theory out in about 2 months myself as my 1st Flaghip statement cut with only 8 days on it (Smiley Surprised), but it had a balance and minimum payment due listed (was able to use the card online a couple of days after approval).  I'll be asking for CLI at day 91 or so...

I tested this theory. It is correct, in my experience!

My first statement cut on 7/21 with only 4 days on the statement after opening the card on 7/17. However, I had already been using the card since NFCU gives you the card numbers and you can use it for online purchases or Apple Pay. The first statement cut with only 4 days on it, had a minimum payment due, and a due date. My third full statement won't post until 10/21. I requested an increase from the $500 SL to $10,000 on 10/17 (92 days from opening). It updated today to show the new CL as $1,500.

Therefore, requesting after 3 statements (partial with minimum due or full) and 91 days seems to work just fine for CLIs. If it doesn't work and timing is noted, it doesn't reset the clock... no harm, no foul.

Thanks for the update, @KA14 , and congrats on the CLI!

1. Yes, after that date AND 3 statements.

2. You can apply for a CLI on both. Max CLI is 3x current limit or $8k, whichever is less. Apply for the CLI you want more first, so you don't risk hitting Navy's max internal limit.

3. You can do both, if you are eligible for both. First increase is 91/3 and subsequent at 181 days/6.

4. CLIs are soft pulls, as long as they are online or through the app.

Re: Navy Federal Datapoints Thread for Membership, CLIs, and Credit Card Products

Here's an odd DP: I just tried Navy's online tool, and I was prequalified for all 6 of their cards, including the Flagship.

Except I don't have a FICO score.

Okay, that's a bit misleading. It would be more correct to say I didn't know I had a FICO score, and I still don't know the number. Because I only have 5 months of credit history, and FICO won't generate a score without a full 6 months. But I did get added as an AU to a card with a much longer history, and 2 days ago I got the alert from CK that the card showed up on my TU report (resulting in 78 point jump in my FAKO score!).

I only used the tool because I was curious to see what I'd qualify for without a credit score, and I was going to compare it with what I prequalified for in early November, once I had a real score. I expected to be prequalified for the nRewards Secured, and nothing more. But since I'm prequalified for the Flagship, the AU card must have allowed FICO to generate a score, and that must be what Navy Fed saw with the soft pull. I didn't know it worked like that.

Experian should update in early November, and I'll be able to see at least one of my FICO scores. (Since I don't have any of their credit products, I only see a FAKO score on Navy Fed.)

So it's a little roundabout and weird, but promising!

@Anonymalous, don't want to burst your bubble but I don't believe Navy FCU's prequals are very reliable. I'd use them with caution.  One big red flag for me would be that they included the Flagship Rewards card yet you have no FICO, only one AU account and no cards yet in your own name.  We've had a lot of members be denied for Flagship Rewards, even with established credit.  Historically, they've required a minimum approval SL of $5K although there were a couple of reports of less in the past 12 months.  You might be approved for a card other than the secured card, but I would suggest starting with something other than FSRs. Also, if you don't already have deposit accounts with direct deposit going to Navy, that might improve your odds with no other significant credit history.  Lenders are often more open to extending credit to banking customers. Either way, good luck and keep us informed!
