Navy Federal Max Unsecured limit reached at 1K?

went for a CLI from Navy Federal..current limit is $1k. I have all 3 of my credit agencies frozen right now since I am gardening. I am 2.5 years post chap 7 bk. For fun I thought I would request a CLI from navy federal. I put in 24000 as the requested amount. I figured since the accounts are frozen and because most people get a soft pull from navy fed on their first cli request, I would try it. It came back with a wait and see message and I got a letter in the mail 4 days later saying I had reached the unsecured max... my question is, is this truly the max, or is it due to the credit freeze?

the navy federal is open with 0 balance (its about 5 months old). Had a 30% usage but paid it down over 3 months. Have 5k capital one and 5k pfcu also. credit score is in the upper 600s (685-695)

way too agressive of a CLI ask for NFCU with your stats and timelines

Not by a long shot. You have a little more restriction with your profile due to a bk being so recent. Just give it time. If 1k was max limit , 98% of myFico would be sporting Penfed cards, not Navy😂

I don't suggest doing this right now but you will very likely get more of what you want with that second NFCU card than trying for a CLI on your existing low limit card.  The second card will open the door a bit and will absolutely mean one shiny new TU hard pull!

If it were me, I would give it a shot after you see that letter and your internal score.

That's unfortunate. Just give it time.

Re: Navy Federal Max Unsecured limit reached at 1K?

It took 18 months and 4 CLI attempts for NFCU to increase my $1,000 limit on my first card to $3,000. But they have no problem giving me a 2nd and 3rd cards with much higher starting limits. Smiley Very Happy

It is funny how Navy is like that on 2nd and 3rd base.

I actually did the 24k ask because others on this forum said that with navy fed you always want to ask for around 25k no matter what.

You did fine.

Internal limits with Navy are fluid. I was just straightening up paperwork and came across a letter from navy saying I had hit the internal limit. That was 6 months and about 35K in CLI ago. Smiley LOL

If you want CL growth you'll probably need to unfreeze TU and go get a 2nd card.

Good luck.
