Re: Navy Federal Question

The 683 score is FICO8 and the only other ones I see for bank card scores are Bank card 8 and 5, both showing a 661, wich is "fair" There's also the Bankcard 9 which is at 707. The 5 and 8 scores being in the "fair" category scare me and that's another reason that I'm waiting.

And another bit of history with Navy Fed is a Co-Applicant on an 11k auto loan that we paid on for 11 months before paying it off. My son, a Marine, was the Co-Applicant and so he was with them already. Not sure if that counts as anything??

After this I think that I'll be doing all of my banking with NFCU and PenFed, which I was thinking of applying to in a few months. I'd join now, but don't want the HP on my record just yet.

Thanks again for your replies, encouragement and wisdom Smiley Happy

Re: Navy Federal Question

Is your income really high? I hope that's not an inappropriate question? It's just that the SL's seem so high!

Re: Navy Federal Question

That's 25k more a year than me lol. I'd be happy with a 5000 SL to be honest.

Also, Should I apply for the Platinum if I intend to make a fairly large purchase and take a month, or two, to pay it off?

I like the 1.5% cash back from my cashRewards and given that

1) the best rate difference isn't that huge (9.9 vs 8.24) and

2) your plan is no more than 1 (and with the use of your grace period) 'possibly 2 months

I'd take the CASH...but again I've said it once and I'll mention it again me likes da CASH Smiley Wink

Seriously don't sleep on getting 1.5% cash back on that 'fairly LARGE purchase'...it's like a 1.5% discount,

which of course further discounts the amount of % paid and possibly comes out as a WIN depending on how quickly paid

or at the very least alloews for an extra month to pay w/o financial loss b/c the addl month may wash w/ the cash back

Just my 2 cents

Re: Navy Federal Question

Your colective replies have convinced me to go for one of the rewards cards, but I'm still waiting for that high utilization to fall off in the next couple of days. I'll update as soon as I apply and what my results are.

Thanks again everyone for your replies!

Re: Navy Federal Question

Little update: MyFico alerted me this morning that my EX score was raised (I already knew yesterday) because my utilization is down. It figures that the one score that makes no difference to me would be the one that is raised first. Sort of annoyed to be quite honest. Anyway, hoping that my other two will update soon!
