Re: Navy Federal Secured Card?

As far as what jkt1975 says about the secure msg to them, well, i don't think that'd work. Especially if they're saying it's all an automatic process

I recently began working on my credit. I have signed up for a Wells Fargo Secured Card (500 CL) and a Capital One Secured Card (200 CL). I signed up for the Capital One before I knew it never graduates (Doh!) My brother will also be adding me as an AU on a Quicksilver card with a $6K CL and 3 years of perfect payment history. (I'm hoping this will provide a nice bump for my scores)

i have 3 questions.

1. Should I sign up for the Navy Federal Secured Card? I've had the NFCUaccount for about a month. I'm considering a $1K limit since it seems like this card graduates like clockwork if you treat it right.

2. I was told they do not use a hard pull to open up the Secured Card by a woman in the Loans Dept at NFCU. Is this correct? It seems suspect to me since they're know for hard pulling for everything.

3. When the card unsecures, I understand it's possible to have it PC'd to a different product. I wouldn't want an nRewards in the long run and would likely PC it. Do they generally allow you to PC to anything? Or do they require a hard pull and approval for that too?

thanks so much! New to all this and trying my best to make the right choices.

NFCU secured card is the best rebuilder card available! I opened that card in 06/2013 w/ $1000 limit and also the USAA secured with a $1000 limit. My card graduated on the 13th statement. I PC'd the card to the cashRewards soon after. I waited a bit before requesting a CLI. The first CLI was to $3500. I requested another to $7500 or so... No HP for the CLI or PC. Finally it is at $10k with an auto cli. My scores have risen significantly since I opened it. I did get a HP on Equifax for that card. They won't make two HP on the same CR if it has been less than 30 days. For example, I recently opened a NavCheck and was looking into getting my car refinanced through them. I only got one HP on equifax.

I know that some have said they haven't graduated yet. I know they like to see use but also that you are keeping that util low. I know that I had been PIF for the last 4-6 statements before it graduated. I also added some larger credit lines during that time. My util was less than 5% when it graduated.

Meanwhile that USAA didn't graduate and I closed it and got my $1000 + $10 interest back....

NFCU cash $50k | BofA Cash Rewards $35k | USAA Rate Advantage $20K | Amex BCP $18k| Costco Anywhere $18.5k | Amex HH Surpass $15k | BofA $14k | WF $14k | Apple Card $6.5k | Cap One QS $4.5k | Sephora Visa $4k | Discover It $8.5k | Citi DC $3.5k | Citi AA Mile Up $5.1k | Chase Amazon $3k | Amex ED $3k | Chase IHG $3k | Chase Freedom Unlimited $4k | Chase Freedom $2.5k | Citi Rewards $2k | Last HP 7/28/25
