Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

I agree, I am in the same boat so I am just waiting for the next AR, my credit is improving rapidly with reduction of utilization so this next AR should be good for me.  Fingers crossed.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

I got a surprise last night!

I opened my NFCU account in Nov '16. I got the Platinum card for 16k and CLOC fo 15k and was ecstatic! I've been using them 2 -4k/mo since then and PIF ( and left some on some statements). I waited until after the Mar 1 review and ap'ed for a cli and hit the Max button, so I was hoping for 25k. I got the 24 hour message and was approved for 24k the next morning. They also did an HP on me.

I'm not complaing about the 24k so much as it made me scratch my head why they 24 houred me, what held them back 1k, and why they HP'ed. I was planning on getting a Rewards card, so that made me stop and think first. My util  has gone up the past 60 days as I have some balances on 2 "0% apr" cards which leaves me at a total util of 15%...so I guessed that got their interest up. I also had about 9% on the CLOC when they reviewed my account, but I paid it off about a week later (I owe zero on all NFCU products now and have 3k in checking and savings which I normally carry there).

So I ignored the signals and ap'ed for the Flagship rewards card on 3/5 and got the 24 hour message (Sunday morning) and was denied first thing Monday morning...said I didn't qualify for the card? I was figuring I wouldn't get a real good sl at this point, but I wasn't expecting a flat out denial... I was crushed. I was going to ask for a recon, but the message said to wait for the letter to tell me my options. The letter said basically I didn't qualify and I hadn't showed I could handle my credit?? My Util is always under 10% at was at >1% before I did these BT's. I sure didn't think they would hurt. My late payments category says "Never" on all 3B's and no baddies.. so I just dropped it and went on. They have been good to me and I didn't want to rock the boat.

Yesterday, I sent them a message to see about adding my wife to my accounts as a joint owner becuase she has no access to any of the cash we have there (in case Im gone) or cards (I can't AU her if she isn't a member). I got to thinking about the rewards card debacle and sent them a message wanting clairifcationand to see if since I didn't qualify for the Flagship, see if I would qualify for cash rewards. I figured I wouldn't hear anything until Monday.

I got an email from them last night (at 9:59PM?) saying I had meassage...

" Thank you for your message. Because we take our members’ concerns seriously, we have conducted a second review of your application. We are pleased to inform you that your recent credit card application has been approved. Your new Visa Signature Flagship Rewards card has been issued to your address of record and should be received within approximately 5-7 business days. Your new credit limit is 9,000.00."  !!!! Smiley Surprised

Man was I shocked... and it was the Flagship too! Smiley Very Happy My faith has been restored and I guess they were just in a bad mood whoever got my first ap.. I don't know and I don't care! I guess this also shows not to be shy about just asking a question. I was surprised too they were working at 10:00 pm on Saturday night!

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

Yay congrats on the 2nd cc and Flagship cc too , even though it took you asking two times in recon , Navy can be so so strange sometimes. But I'm so glad it worked out for you in the end . They have hurt my feelings too in the past lol I'm still trying to keep a positive attitude about it all though . Congrats to you again and I'm happy about all the success you have seen with them

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

Thank you Aduke! Actually I only asked once and that was yesterday... I didn't do anything after I was denied 3 weeks ago. I think it's cool they would still reconsider that much later.

I owe a lot to you because you helped me so much when I first joined and I have always remembered you for that. I am sorry if they keep doing that to you, have you had any success with them this year? No one deserves a break more than you!  You are always there to help others! Smiley Wink

Thanks Stryder for the kind words , I tried once this year and it was a No again ,I am waiting until my One year Anniversary with them and I will ask again and see what happens I don't need anymore HPs from them at this point I have enough to last a life time lol Jk . And that's so cool they waited 3 weeks and reconsidered . Oh I forgot to mention earlier , you will get a HP ANYTIME it's not an instant approval for a CLI , if it goes to review it's gonna be a HP sadly 🙁

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

They did HP me when it went to review and I was declined on 3/5. They said in the message yesterday they reviewed my apllication and approved me. I asked them not to hard pull me, so hopefully they didn't pull me again. But actually...I don't care since I got my Flagship!Smiley LOL

NFCU nor any other organization is perfect but the culture of the organization is one of genuine desire to take care of their members.  They do the right thing and even they cannot approve you (personal experience) you know they have done all they can for you.  This is why they are our primary bank.  Even though my wife is a joint member on my account I had her join also so we have two CLOC and 4 total NFCU cards.  I am surprised more don't have their spouse also get products.

The trick is to have your phone ready to go and if you hit the button and get the review immediately call and ask them to cancel your request.  About 50% of the time you can get it pulled in time, perhaps a little more.
