Question:
With the below DPs and criteria, is it still better to app for Navy Flagship after 3-6 months use of Go Rewards or More Rewards CC so that NFCU can see my track record with them?
I combed through the forums and many contributors say to app for Navy Flagship as your second Navy CC to get approval and relatively high CL.
DPs after 12 months gardening:
TU HP: 2 / none in the past 12 months
TU FICO 8: 828
AoOA: 32 yrs
AAoA: 4 yrs 10 m
DTI: 33% (mortgage)
UTIL: AZEO
POI: 150K
CCs: 10, majority with $20,000 CL
Member for 12 months, checking a/c, modest monthly DD from employer. Prefer to get one CC from NFCU, but I'll go for two-step process if that is the optimal route. I understand NFCU use internal scoring and they value relationship banking.
Thanks for your thoughts and DPs.

Your DPs are far better than mine in most aspects, but I applied for the Flagship as my first card with NFCU and was immediately approved. I had been banking with them as a primary account for less than a month.
TU FICO 8 - 688
TU inquiries - 4/12
UTI - 3%
DTI - approximately 20%
Income - 120k
Active duty, but I doubt that made a significant difference in UW. It's a roll of the dice here, but I've found the organization to be exceptional to work with. No guarantees, but I'd give it a shot and ask for a different card application on the same HP if you're denied and that option is available through recon. At the time, I had (and still have) the entirety of my pay through the Flagship Checking as a DD, and over 50k in the account when I applied, for what it's worth.
@AmericanSkin Thank you for your DPs and thoughts. As you mentioned, I'll give it a shot and if denied, go through recon for other cards with same HP. Thanks again for sharing.
@AmericanSkin If I may ask, what CL did you get for your Flagship? Thank you!
@Marmot SL was $7100 - nothing to write home about, but I'd added a 10k Sapphire Reserve and the Amex Platinum less than a month prior, so I was happy with the limit given NFCU's apparent propensity to approve a large CLI after 91/3. I'm hoping that's the case. I'll hit the SUB amount of 4K next month (PIF long before statement cut) so I'm hoping they'll see enough money being pushed through to justify a good increase.
I think you'll be approved for significantly higher, unless the policy for the first card is a generally small/moderate limit.
@AmericanSkin Thanks for the informative DPs. I'm hoping the best for your CLI increase. I've read that NFCU are good with CLI request and auto CLI. I'm looking forward to their good customer service.
@Marmot Fingers crossed for you. At absolute worst it's only a TU HP which won't impact you adversely for long if at all. NFCU has been outstanding to me from day one - I've been fortunate with customer service at every financial institution I've been a member of outside of USAA (9 years with Chase, and just over a year with Wells Fargo), but NFCU's branch and phone service has been the best by a significant margin.
Best of luck to you!
I honestly think you have nothing to worry about. You're a shoo-in, IMO.
@OmarGB9 Thank you! I hope it'll go well. I've been catious with HPs and the occasional denied app is a bummer. One never knows what CU UW weight in the credit profile. As a result, I usually become a member, open a checking account, and make DD from my employer to build the relationship.
