Navy fed approval question

I got a mailer saying I was pre approved for the cash rewards plus. I know that is the name given to the 2% cash back version, as the 1.5% cash back variant is called just cash rewards.

I also  know that they require a 5k limit to get the cash rewards plus version. It said u was approved for the plus version which leads me to think I would get the minimum 5k credit line needed. But the mailer also said "up to 2% cash back" which makes it sound like it's possible I won't get the 5k line.

anyone have any experience with this? Anyone applied after getting a pre approval like mine?

Re: Navy fed approval question

Preapprovals from NFCU aren't the most accurate.  Navy Federal can also be relationship oriented as well (it can help to have your DD with them).  I had nothing but a small certificate and about a year of membership  when I applied for the card and was given $7100 CL.  Also, even if they don't give you $5k from the start you'll get the bump to 2% once your CL gets to $5k  (you can grow pretty quickly with NFCU).

While not apples to apples, NFCU sent me two preapproval letters last year for their More Rewards card; when I applied I was instantly approved for a $30,000 limit.  Like @Zoostation1, I had a small direct deposit with them at the time and had just opened up a small CD as well.  Needless to say, I was shocked at the SL; doubly so as I'd only been a member for a few months and that was my first (and so far only) card with them.

Re: Navy fed approval question

The best way to boost your chances of approval is having DD w/ them. They LOVE members w/ DD.

Re: Navy fed approval question

If the mailer specifically says you’re pre-approved for the Cash Rewards Plus; that usually means NFCU is confident you’ll qualify for at least the $5k limit required for that version. While nothing is 100% guaranteed until the app is processed; most people who get that exact pre-approval do end up with the Plus and the minimum line or higher. The ‘up to 2%’ language is likely just standard marketing copy; not an indicator you’d be downgraded.
