Re: Need Advice on Amex Application, being Cautious

Wife has an Experian score comparable to yours and Tuesday was approved for the PRG and immediately after that approval applied for the ED and was approved for that with a $2500 limit. The PRG was overnighted and arrived today.

The rule of thumb from this forum seems to be realistic. Apply for the charge card first and revolving charge immediately afterwards. The blue cash has stricter underwriting standards.

Re: Need Advice on Amex Application, being Cautious

Thanks for the advice everyone. I figured I was on the cusp of an approval. I reviewed a bunch of threads like the one zorasmiles recommended that showed someone with a much lower Ex and got a $500 CL. Also looking at that thread that Op had gone to creditcards.com and used their cc finder app and I decided to do the same thing. It came back to me with "CONGRATULATIONS! You have qualified for the following Special Offers. We've partnered with major issuers to show even better offers to well-qualified customers like you. These are offers you won't find elsewhere on our site.". It then listed Amex Gold, Platinum, ED cash, Ed Pref and then Chase SP and assorted Cap One cards. Interestingly the offers listed were much better than those listed on Amex site giving it the feel that it is slightly more than an automatic marketing gimmick. And they were offering double the points for half the spend normally listed on Amex. It is tempting the way the carrot is dangled out there, they even pre fill the Amex forms for you. Anyone have experience with that feature?

I am going to kick it around a little bit more, that offer is very tempting. But as suggested maybe I should let the $9k CL Chase SP grow a little and my score should go up just from higher overall CL. I was getting frustrated that my score typically doesnt go above Ex 675 no matter what i do. I guess the only answer is time. Any other comments or suggestions are welcome.

Thanks to everyone for their contribution to the boards, I would not have gotten where I am today in the credit world without the advice found on these boards.

If you choose to wait, I think at least 6 months in the garden will put you in the right position to get what you want.  Let only one of your cards report 10% per month and the bump you'll get from your mortgage will have you seeing 700's across the board in no time soon.  You will definitely be in the drivers seat of your credit sooner than later.  Good luck.

FICO scores are your calling card to the business world. Build a negative reputation and those doors are hard to open, find that perfect balance of credit responsibility and those doors open when you desire them.
