I applied for a BBVA card and was denied for "unable to verify identity".  Has anyone experienced this who was able to get the application reviewed and eventually approved.   If so,  who was the point of contact at BBVA?  there's one member I've already asked in a pm who said they were successful but refuses to help.  Hopefully there's someone here who is willing to help as they have received help from other members.

I'm sorry you've encountered folks who have enjoyed the wisdom and assistance of others, but fail to reciprocate.  I've come across a few myself.  Smiley Frustrated

I don't have any info on BBVA, but if it were me, I would change the title of the thread, or start a new one with a topic that would attract folks with BBVA experience, i.e. "Need Contact Info for BBVA Compass NBA Card", or something similar.  There might be folks with your answer, but they may not click your post based on the title.

Hopefully somebody will have the info you're looking for.  Good luck!  Smiley Wink

Great idea UncleB.  Is there a mod who can change the title of this thread to "Need Contact Info for BBVA because BBVA unable to verify identity on credit app"?

I 'think' (?) if you go back and edit your very first post, you can change it there and it will then appear using the edited title.

I'll also flag for a mod to see if they can help out as well... you deserve help with your original BBVA problem!

Re: some members chose not to share information

+1 what UncleB said. Go back to first post and you can change title there. I think its really sad that a member would be unwilling to help. I mean isn't that what we're here for to help one another? So sorry 12. I sure wish I knew a contact at BBVA. Hope it gets resolved asap. Smiley Happy

Re: some members chose not to share information

I spoke with someone regarding this with my application a long time back... and they asked me to mail a letter with information on it to one person. (I absolutely didn't do this, because there is no way on this green Earth that I'm going to go to that trouble as the lady was describing, to obtain a credit card from a company that is obviously not current with technology enough to verify identity. The fact that there was only one contact person was an unbelievable notion, as well.) It absolutely wasn't worth it. I was miffed that I had the HP, but that's life. I applied for credit - whether or not it was granted or not doesn't change the fact I was seeking a new trade line, so I just didn't bother any further. I made a mental note though to never do any business interactions with BBVA on any level in the future.

I certainly agree with you.  Part of me wants to just file a complaint with CPFB and just be done with it and the other part of me (the nice side) wants to exhaust all means to get the card.  I know I don't really need the card but I hate the fact that I was denied for a ridiculous reason.  I have overcome all other obstacles in my credit journey (NFCU, Chase, and CITI).  It's more the challenge than the card itself at this point.  This will require more thought on my part.  I realize even if I do get a contact person, I'll likely end up with the previous response of a cut and paste from my cra into another denial notice.  I should just go ahead and file the complaint and see what happens with that.  Maybe I can get the HP's removed at least.

I couldn't agree more, Kenny, in today's world there's no excuse for a mid-sized bank to ask for documents to be sent 'snail-mail' for identity verification.  It's just nonsense; but as you've figured out, BBVA can be quite nonsensical with how they do business.  Wells Fargo was a huge step-up for me, if that tells you anything.

I will add one thing, though.  I dealt with BBVA Compass for years (starting back when they were just 'Compass') and they use one mailing address for literally everything - checking, credit, etc.  If you send anything to their address (PO Box 10566) without a department or a person's name, it could linger for quite a while before it found its way to the correct person - if it ever did.  As problematic as the whole situation was for you, that you were provided a person's name was actually a good thing, as crazy as it sounds.

All of this being said, I believe your situation ended up being a 'blessing in disguise'... there are far better lenders out there!  Smiley Wink

I thought the same things.. I think we owe it to the CFPB to simply do what we can before we involve them, though. Just call the generic number for status (I forget which one it is...) and ask them how is this possible? Who do you need to contact in order to finalize this application, because this isn't an acceptable resolution for you. A major bank/cu/whatever they are.. should be able to verify you if Chase/Capital One/ ETC can.

Oh definitely.. they were vague and said I needed to call back to speak with whatever their name was but that it would require this and this and this, I forget all it was, but it was enough that I thought no-- absolutely not. Your product isn't something that I actually need/want that badly so as to make me do this leg work that isn't necessary for all other lenders. (That of course won't be the case for everyone, but it was enough for me.) I just thought if I had this much trouble at the beginning .. how much trouble would the whole process be? How miserable would I be after I obtained this product? I just knew that this was going nowhere fast and I needed to get out.

Ok I think I'm just going to go ahead and file.  I don't think that they (BBVA) are making credit equally available to all with this BS reason.  If I can get the HP's removed that would be great and I can rest assured.  If not, that'll be okay I guess considering I have a ton on EX anyway along with a ton of credit to go with it Smiley LOL
