New Amex Member and Application

I recently was approved for the Blue Cash Everyday for 10k with Amex. I have a bunch of inquiries as well. I am waiting for the 60 days so I can do the 3x credit limit increase. However, I would like to apply for the platinum charge card as well. If I apply for the charge card does that screw up my 60 days or any interference at all?

Thanks

No it wouldn't interfere with your CLI request

My understanding is that it wouldn't - the caveat you have to look out for is that you can only get one CLI across all of your cards every six months, but I'm not sure if opening a new account disqualifies you.

Nope... the Platinum application will not interfere with you 3x CLI on your BCE.

Re: New Amex Member and Application

Thank you everyone for the advice. I applied and was approved. So excited. The rep told me it wont interfere as well, because they are two different products.

I am just confused about this no preset spending limit. So I put 2-5k per month through my blue cash, and then i want to buy something for 3k on my platinum will i need to call in? I dont want the embarrassment of being declined.

Thoughts?

Re: New Amex Member and Application

NPSL just means that your transactions will be evaluated and approved/denied on a case-by-case basis rather than say, if you have a $500 limit and charge $501, it will decline. It does NOT mean you have unlimited spending power.

If you are planning a purchase on that card which may be a bit expensive, log-in to your online account and right under where it says "No pre-set spending limit," you can use the "Check spending power" tool to essentially get yourself a pre-approval for that amount. In other words, if you use that tool and say you want to make a $5,000 purchase and it says approved, then any other factors notwithstanding, you will be approved when you go to make that purchase.
