I recently applied for a New Egg card in order to take advantage of the 0% financing offers available and was automatically denied. I contacted Synchrony and they would not help and just told me to wait for my denial letter.
What makes no sense is that they pulled TU yet my TU FICO is 825. My monthly income exceeds $7k, and my total CC utilization is 5%, and my monthly debt obligation is just under $1k a month (car, student, and a very low interest personal loan). I have not had any enquiries within the last year and only two in the last two years (one from Chase for a Sapphire Preferred which I was approved with a $17k limit and one for a CL increase of $9k for my USAA card). I also have no derogatory marks at all. In addition, I had a New Egg card for many years that was utilized a lot before they changed from Bill me Later to Syrchrony.
Does anyone have any idea what my denial could be for?
This may be a silly question, but on the app you did put your "annual" income and not your "monthly" income right? I always have to ask when people include their monthly income in a post, rather than their annual. If that's not the reason for the denial then I'm not sure. Did they tell you it was denied or did they just say to wait on a letter?
Well, the application specifically asked for monlthy income (I triple checked that's what they asked) so I put my monthly income. It straight up said denied.

That's strange. I've never app'd for New Egg before, but I don't think I've ever come across an app that asked for monthly income - it's always been annual for me. I've been asked for monthly mortgage/rent and monthly spend on cards, but monthly income is a new one. Your scores are great and you said you have other cards, so I'm lost. Have you ever burned Synchrony before?
Yes, I thought the monthly income was strange too! But, no, I've never had any credit through Synchrony. Although I see that Synchrony has taken over for Bowflex and I had issues with them when I was 18 (16 years ago) due to a and a family memeber who took something out in my name and ended up going to collections (which I paid). That was all done and dusted over 10 years ago though. Would that impact this application?

I wouldn't think something that long ago would affect you with Synchrony - other banks can hold a grudge for a very long time - even for accounts that they took over from another lender (just like Synch took over Bowflex and I'm sure the old account info that came with it). But I don't think Synch holds a grudge that long though (but I could be wrong). I guess all you can do for now is wait on the letter and see what the denial reasons are.

I think they made a mistake and you should recon it. Don't call customer service, call a backdoor number.

I highly doubt that would be the reason. I don't think even amex would blacklist you for that long. With your stats, they are stupid to lose a good customer if that's the case. I would definitely call the backdoor number and recon. If that's a no-go, then wait for the letter. I am also very curious to what reason they might have given to turn down someone with your stats. If you get the decision turned over, or receive the letter, please update us here. Good Luck.

You can determine if that was the issue by two things. First did the message actually say denied, or was it a 7-10 day message? If it actually said denied, that's indicator number one. Second did they actually do a hard pull on your TU file? If they didn't, and the message said denied, it is the old account.
