I turned 18 in november and got a discover it student card with a $750 SL then about three months later got denied for a citi student card because of "lack of file" fast forward to about 3 weeks ago got a CLI from $750 to $1200. CHecked credit karma for the first time and had 678. Later that day applied for a CA quicksilver and got approved for only $300 and the HP dropped me to 673. Last saturday I applied for the amex cash magnet with a $2000 SL. Im trying to build a good base and soon so i can get my average length up fast when should i apply for a new card. And do you guys think I could get a chase card and if so which. Average income $10000
thanks
If you do decide to go for a chase card be aware that the recent pulls on your credit probably might make them lean towards a no, but since you've already applied for a bunch, what's one more if you aren't planning to heavily use your credit score in the next two years. I for one as a student let 4 inquries hit my account and my score actually stayed the same because all the new credit lines made utilization 1% from 12%. For you I could see a Chase Freedom or Freedom unlimited but I ask why go after those cards when they match what you bascially have already. Your discover card is just as strong as chase with the exception of it being a visa. Your quicksilver matches the unlimited generally. To boost your scores in reality you need to let your credit build with consistent payments for at least a year, but like I said if you don't really care about 1 more inq. and could manage another card as well then test the waters.
Based on what you have currently, apping for another card may or may not be necessary. Unless you are looking for something specific (i.e. travel rewards, points, cash back, etc.) then it may be better to let your accounts age and grow. Once you have a few more months, or a year atleast, then I would app since it'll give you a stronger profile. Chase usually likes atleast 1 year of credit history so, right now, it may swing towards a negative. I would wait for a bit.
I would hold off on apping for anythign now and focus on growing the cards you have. That will lay down a strong foundation for you to get the cards you want in the future.
Read what you can here. Check Chase's pre-qual and see what comes up. Don't believe Credit Karma, NerdWallet, or other FAKO sites.
Do you research before you app! If you really want in with Chase, you need to be mindful of 5/24 rule.
Know when to hold em....
Stay put a while, let em grow and this will prepare for if/when you "need" another card.
You got a sweet line up, right out the gate.....
hp from disco will stop hurting your score after 1 year (still is on report for 2 yr)
so you will see a bump in nov and you will also hit your 1 year AoOA (age of oldest account)
After that, chase will be more than likely and also possible much higher SL (starting limit)
