I have been gardening since Jan'15 when I was approved for RCRewards Chase Card. Been itching for a new card but unsure on which one I should go after.
Credit Scores are TU760 EQ761 EX777
5% Util. of 40k
I know that it's based on my needs and what I'm looking for (0% interest/Rewards, etc) which is not anything in particular at.
Current Cards: Capital One Platnium, Discover Cash Back, Best Buy Store Card,Comenity Express Store Card, Ritz Carlton Rewards
Are there any certain banks/lenders that I should add in the mix for future purposes (car loans, mortgages, etc) I'm in my early-mid 20s so just building up as much as I can!
Some that keep popping up for Chase Slate, Chase Freedom, not sure if I should try for an Amex? What is the difference between what my friend calls "real Amex" (roman guy in the center) vs the everyday/blue cash --besides annual fees and paying the balance off in full everymonth- is there a disadvantage with either.
Also, I fly cross country often (LDR, but we are moving in together at the end of the month) and fly virgin america a lot, so that's another one I have been considering if any one has any input on that card as well!
Basically I'm all ears for any and all suggestions, sorry for the novel.

My recommendation would be Barclays Ring card, a simple card with very low fees and interest rates.

Of course it depends on the type of rewards you want miles vs cash back. I don't have much use for miles so I concetrate on the cash back. Citi Double Cash back is a no fee 12 mo 0 interest and at 2% cash back on every purchase it is a very good card. If you are looking to build a relationship with a lender I would recommend Penfed they have cash back and miles cards and a full line of financial products. Cards, Auto loans, Personal lines of credit, Home equity Mortgages, Checking and Savings. These are only my preferences of course the ultimate decision is yours.
Just pick what is best for your spending. I would also encourage you to always combine inquiries whenever possible to keep them down. EG if you app for an amex charge card with a bonus, also app for a credit card. Citi is one of the few that wont combine inquiries. Leave capital one as a last resort (although if they are being honest about coming out with a new product this fall, you could take the triple HP and app for that and get a venture with a decent limit)
how many inquiries do you have now and what is your AAOA? you seem to be off to a great start thats for sure!
I like the idea of the ring, if you do app for that, I would also grab a sallie mae for 5% off 250/mo of gas and groceries and 750/mo on amazon+books.
If you fly theres a ton of cards to choose from with bonuses. I like the double cash card and pairing that with expedia mobile 25 off 100 for hotel coupons. Expedia+ voyager could be an option if you use expedia a lot and stay at any of their vip list of properties.
Rail travel amtrak has a new card with BOA, you could grab the 20k amtrak points and double app for a Better Balance Rewards (will give you 100-120 cash a year over and over)
see if you can PC your platinum to a quicksilver to get unlimited 1.5% cash back.
TLDR report your monthly spend and categories and hopefully you end up with 2 cards under 1 inquiry! And always research before applying because often times there are better bonuses out than what is listed (amex, citi, chase, etc)
I would recommend the Chase Sapphire for miles building, it goes very well with the Chase Freedom as you can combine points, and Virgin is an airline partner you can transfer points to. Although I don't think they are 0% interest, and it does carry an AF. The Slate would be 0% for a while but then you would be forfeiting travel rewards.
I like Chase as a bank in general and recently opened up a checking/savings account with them just to build a better relationship for a future mortgage. They do have a 'no more than 5 accounts in 2 years' rule though, so keep that in mind when applying for the slate/freedom/csp.
CapitalOne's Venture card would allow you to be a little more flexable in terms of travel rewards though as it can be redeemed for any type of travel rather than just a few airlines or websites. That might be worth looking into.
The difference between the 'Amex with the Roman guy in the center' and the regular Amex is that one is a CHARGE card (pay in full every month) and the other is a CREDIT card allowing you to carry a balance. The charge cards are generally geared towards points and perks and usually for people who travel a lot.
Other than just travel rewards, I know cards like the SallieMae offer 5% back on gas/groceries which are areas most people spend a lot of money in. Might be worth looking into that as well.
The best recommendations are going to depend on what you are currently spending on your cards and what you envision in the near future for credit.
Definitely PC your Capital One Platinum to Quicksilver. And keep hitting the Luv button/soft CLI request on your cards.
You might also want to look at the different credit unions in your area as well as the national ones. Many have <9% APR credit cards, <10% APR person loans, < 2% APR car loans, and 0% balance transfer fees.
AAoA=4.5 oldest 7.5 One inquiry expiring next month from 2 years ago!
So I am PQ for C1 Quicksilver and Venture at the moment and Also Freedom, Slate, Preferred.
Thanks for your input!
Would it be a bad call to apply for Venture and a Chase Card at the same time?
Don't apply for something just because you're bored. There is no reason to app unless there's something you feel you want. Saying "what card should I get?" and then having people try to talk you into certain cards, to me, is counterproductive.
There are no secrets as to which cards are available. Run the numbers for your spend. Figure out what you may be "missing out" on rewards wise, and if the available options are a significant enough difference over your current cards to bother applying. Alternatively, if rewards are not the priority, look into low APR cards if that's something you'd benefit from.
All you will get from this thread is people listing cards they have/like, which is fine, but doesn't really help much. Don't app just to app.
You mentioned flying a lot but that you were moving in together soon -- ok, so the flying is a short term thing, right? If so, why app for an airline card?
App for Chase first, then CapOne
