Newbie with a question about Cap1

Hello,
I apologize ahead of time for any posting mistakes since I'm new to the forum.
My question is:
I applied and was approved for the Cap1 Quicksilver card. I tried to apply for the Cap1 Platinum but got an email stating they could not fulfill my request because I already have a Cap1 card. I've seen other people on the forums who have both cards. What am I missing? Is it possible to have both and if so what am I doing wrong?

Scores are in the 580s and 607

Usually have to wait six months between applying for Capital one cards.

Re: Newbie with a question about Cap1

Thank you so much! I had read a few posts where it appeared the individuals had applied at the same time. Thank you for clearing it up for me Smiley Happy I thought it was my scores

Re: Newbie with a question about Cap1

You can have a total of 5 capital one cards of which 2 can be starter cards but you can only get a CLI or open a new card every 6 months.

So 6 months needs to elapse between new accounts or CLI increases on the same card.

Rebuild started in 2014  -  $100k unsecured credit in 2017  -  $500k unsecured credit in 2024.

DON'T WORK FOR CREDIT CARDS ... MAKE CREDIT CARDS WORK FOR YOU!

Re: Newbie with a question about Cap1

The only time Capital One may approve more than 1 new card in less than 6 months is a rare situation where someone first gets a Platinum Secured card and then gets a QS1 soon after.

Capital One's site usually denies this but I've seen it a half dozen times in 2017.  I got my Platinum Secured in May 2017 but got my QS1 in August 2017 (3 months after Platinum Secured), so I fit in this rare group.

Regular Platinum means you are blocked from a new card for 6 months -- not sure if it's the day of the month that matters, or just the month number.

Since I was approved for my last unsecured Capital One card on August 7, 2017, I shouldn't be able to apply for a new card until February 2018 -- maybe February 1, maybe February 7.  I am in the garden so I won't be applying for any, but I'm hoping my Platinum graduates in April so I can combine both accounts into one bigger credit limit.
