Next Move

Some data on me first

18 years old, $12,000 income, $0 rent and $6500 in savings

Discover it student card (01/18) 750 Sl, CLI to $1200 (06/23)

Denied for Citi TYP student card (04/18) due too lack of file

Capital one QS (6/18) $300 SL

American Express cash magnet ( July 7 2018) $2000 SL

674 Trans and Equi (Not updated with new amex inquiry, disco CLI or CO QS card)

3 inqueries (4 soon from amex)

Now to my question

I want to get one more card within a month or two then garden for a year or two so my inquires drop off and I can build up my score with on time payments, low utilization ( currently less then 15% on all cards and plan to take it down to 1-2%) , and to build up AAoA. What would be some recommendations for my next card to get that is relatively easy to get for my situation so I can start off my future with a good financial base? Looking for something to keep for a good amount of years travel, cash back or rewards.

All input is appreciated Thanks

Re: Next Move

There's many ways you can go from here -

Chase Freedom (I would recommend this since they have alternating 5% categories and it's not too hard to get a small SL and then build from there)
Credit Union - have a savings and open a CC (US Bank, Alliant, etc.)
BOA - Cash rewards/Travel rewards (If your looking for CB, Cash Rewards, or Travel rewards if you prefer travel)

There's many cards out there and really the question is, what do you want? You have 2 cards giving CB already so would you prefer another one? Travel rewards? Points?

Scores - All bureaus 770 +
TCL - Est. $410K

Re: Next Move

My worry with you is that chase wouldn't look at your file favorably due to the number of inquries. You can try for a freedom or unlimited and if they decline go for a recon in which you'll explain that the inqs. are becuase you are looking to build credit etc.

Bank of America Travel Rewards is a solid option. They gave me a small line but no annual fee, and rewards bonuses are there to get you started on travel savings. My concern there would be short age of accounts.

A card with whoever you have a savings account with may be likely to be approved since they'll see your account depending on the bank.

Good luck!

Re: Next Move

You are off to a nice start, and now you are past the 6 month mark from your first card.

Joining a credit union would be a big jump on your current and future needs.

Some have requirements that you may not meet, such as location or membership or

even some require special jobs/careers.

However, there are many that only require a donation of $10 or so to a non-profit or group etc.

With a CU, you can have checking/savings/credit cards, auto loans and even mortgage when you are ready.

But some/most also offer investments and CD's and the likes.

Another cc would also be store cards,  even such as Amazon, Walmart, Lowes/HD,

and many other various stores and such. now some will only be a store card,

which means you can only use it in that store, but some will also have visa/mc/amex branded,

so it can be used just like regular cc (since it is) but will offer possible more perks/rewards for

that particular store branded on front.

........just some thoughts......

Are those scores coming from CK or are they FICO 08?

And good job so far, bro!

Re: Next Move

So I'm a 20 year old student with about 3x your income right now. But i decided early on that I want to get it in with each and every bank. After I had my foot in the door, I have now been deciding where I want to go with cards. I have my foot in the door with Chase, BOA, Disc, Amex, Barclay's, US Bank, Citi, and CapitalOne.
Since you already got 3 of my own starter companies/cards, and denied for my 4th starter card, all I can think of would he BoA Cash Rewards, but they can be stingey. Wish I had more luck, but you've used up a majority of your "friendly-to-new-credit" banks! It's gonna get dicey now!
