I went for a new card every time first before the CLI. And for me it was fantastic results as per my signature. But it maybe ymmv for each profile.

I appd for the go rewards card first then the more rewards card next then appd for CLI on go rewards which resulted in a 3X CLI from initial SL of 1K to 3K and more rewards SL of 25K.

I hope this happens with me when the time comes  Smiley Happy

Always recommend a new card first.  Then a CLI.

Someone should do a poll on this with results!  Smiley Wink

I plan on doing what @Anonymous suggested to me once which is the opposite of what is being said here, but a poll of those who have apped and CLI request after 91/3 and how they did it with results would make for some interesting reading  Smiley Happy

Re: Nfcu best to go for new card or cli first?

I recently applied for the second card first and then requested the CLI. I was approved for both! My understanding is that they pull from two different bureaus so it doesnt really matter which one you do first. I didnt get the full amount of my CLI request bc I hit NFs internal limit. But the card I applied for had a SL of $25,000.

i personally think you should go for the card first. They're known to be generous on the second card depending on your DPs, while my understanding of the CLIs is that they are closer to $8-9k increases. Pick your poison!

Good luck!

Re: Nfcu best to go for new card or cli first?

After thoughtful consideration, I elected to go for CLI first and then wait for requesting a second card. I went from $10K SL to $18K on my Platinum. This was the card I most wanted due to its' low 7.49% APR since I have other great reward card options. I am also not rebuilding so I don't need to focus just on Navy FCU by itself as some have done.  It was suggested to me to go for whichever one you wanted more (the new card or the CLI) so that is what I did.  I am waiting to apply for second or third cards. I am allowing my relationship with Navy to age which I think will improve my new card SLs. Banking is now almost 7 months old. I have also had other credit activity and felt it best to garden before applying for new cards. The cards I am most interested in would be More Rewards AMEX or Flagship Rewards.

Congratulations on your CLI.

It was mentioned the SUB was removed for the Flagship. Maybe it will return next quarter?

Thanks!  Yes, that is another good reason to wait on that one.  I had hoped it would have already returned by now!

Same for me. I'll have to wait for it to come back.

Re: Nfcu best to go for new card or cli first?

@AllZero @Aim_High did it just disappear?  I swear I saw it yesterday.  Hopefully it's back for my last 91/3.  Looking for a final line up of More Rewards, Flagship, and then to PC my Cash Rewards to the Platinum.

Re: Nfcu best to go for new card or cli first?

@recoveringfrombk7 . It's a new month. Yes, I recall Flagship SUB was there last month.

More rewards currently has 25,000 points SUB. I don't know if it's the same as last month.
