No approval ms questioning Identity

My father is 60 never had a credit score in life. I’ve put a tradeline that’s reporting to all 3 bureaus on his credit gave him 758.

I then Have a secure loan with credit strong. Capital one pre qualified was approved but now questioning his identity I don’t understand! capital one requested docs that I did send but they never said nothing

Then I tried to prequalify for first premier card and they declined having problems with identity. Can someone tell me what I need to do

Re: No approval ms questioning Identity

Have you followed up with Capital One to see if they received the requested documents and if they need anything else to proceed?

You should start there.

So, you're trying to impersonate your father and your identity is being questioned? Is he still living? This could be interesting, please keep us informed.

It may be poorly worded, but I believe OP is trying to help their father establish a CS and credit.

That might be what they are trying to do but to the creditors it looks like identity theft.  If the application(s) were poorly worded as well it likely came across as someone attempting to use his ID to get credit.

The problem is establishing credit was done in the wrong order IMO.  I would have had him open a secured card first and let that sit for a few months then add the AU trade line to beef up the profile.  Unfortunately it is too late now.

My first question is WHY at age 60 does he suddenly need or want credit?  And, why is this person not doing these things themself with guidance from the kid?

Exactly I'm trying to help him out. As it is never too late to get your stuff together will never try to impersonate him that's a ridiculous statement

Well for one its never too late or too old to be successful. For 2 he doesn't understand  how credit works as far as building it so I am walking him through. He's a functional 60yr old I'm just giving him the rope then he take it from there

Re: No approval ms questioning Identity

In general it's OK to help your dad, but it needs to be clear to the creditor that you're only providing help at his direction and aren't actually handling his financial affairs for him unless you have a suitable financial power of attorney.   One common way this manifests itself is if they call, or if you call them, they may require he give them explicit permission to talk to you or they may refuse outright to talk to you and will only talk to him.

If there are identity problems it might be a good idea to help your dad go to https://consumer.risk.lexisnexis.com/consumer so he can get a copy of his consumer disclosure report and to https://www.annualcreditreport.com and get copies of his credit reports.  Since he's having identity-based issues he may be unable to order copies of these reports online and will have to submit his requests in writing via US Mail;  there's information on these websites on the steps your dad needs to take to submit his requests by mail.  Lexis Nexis is generally considered a Source of Truth whose information often percolates onto credit reports, and a common reason for identity issues is conflicting or incorrect information on a Nexis Lexis consumer report.    If there are errors your dad can use the dispute process to correct or otherwise remove the errors

Walk into a bank branch and open a checking or savings account. Then inquire about a secured card. This will establish some history and move forward.
