Re: Non savvy consumer needs help from savvy consumers

Greenapple13 I am not giving up! I can't! The credit union has been around for a while and this year makes the 80th years they been in business. They just do not offer what big banks like chase and BOA offer in fraud prevent. As for the precautions your absolutely correct about the methods they should've used to prevent. I once had Bank of America and they took me through the ringer to get my own money. They called me, check my signature against my previous cashed checks, they sent me a notification on my phone but after banking with they I was hopeful of getting a business loan... Armed with business plan and years of data for them to see about my deposits they denied me. So I went to the credit union thinking they were going to help me with acquiring the loan I wanted. They denied me too but told me why and what to do. They were the ones who told me to get a secured installment loan and credit card with them.

The detectives have film showing the person driving up to the branch, cashing the checks at a local check casher and I provided them with information on where I was at the times the withdrawals were made. They have to subpoena the stores I was in to get the video tapes so I can be cleared.

Again I'm confident things will blow over its just a matter of when. Since I've added several levels of security to my account at the bank. They are now rolling out debit and credit cards with smart chips in them and I setup my account to email me if money has been talking out more then $5.

In my report I told the police all the contents in my wallet but they did not advise me to add any more security to my accounts only to cancel the cards. I found out when I filed my taxes they filed them before me. Another long story....

I'm just blown away that they filed taxes in your name!

I'd still like to know the answer about the question of student loans you have not made a payment on since 2011? That will not bode well for getting any credit.

Re: Non savvy consumer needs help from savvy consumers

@They did and again I'm finding out more and more about what someone can do once they acquire your identity. I now have a special pin thats required to file a return in my name. It's life... I am just grateful I was not killed or severely beaten during the mugging. Just a broken nose and ripped up clothing.

My main focus is fixing or rebuilding my credit so I can start to acquire a few credit cards.

You've got a great attitude.

Since you have opted in, have you tried the Cap1 prequalification site yet? Have you checked to see if you currently qualify?

Re: Non savvy consumer needs help from savvy consumers

I check capital one every other day but nothing yet. I did check chase prequalification site got a pre approval for freedom & slate but i checked the next day and now it says "We are unable to locate any offers for you at this time."

Question: When my credit is checked will credit card companies see the closed cards and their history and use it in their approval decision?

I'm hoping capital one will base their decision on my history with them. I had a secured card with them going on 5 years for 3k never missed a payment. I closed the card a week ago.

Any account, including a closed account, on your report factors into your score and therefore the decision. During a review, yes, the specific payment history is available and can be used to support or deny credit.

Cap1 pulls all three reports so they see everything, no matter which report its on. If turned down, you can always recon which will give you an opportunity to bring up the payment history as well as explain the identify theft and missed payments.

More than enough credit.

Re: Non savvy consumer needs help from savvy consumers

@NichelleN Thank you so much for taking out the time to address my concerns. You responding means a lot! I see a lot of members post go unanswered.

The balance on my credit card was $4300 when my statements closed last month, thats why I think my score is so low due to the high balance. It's now $346.00 of $5000.

Also I just got 2 auto loans last month totaling 48k and my first payments are on the 23rd of august and 1st of september. I read that your score takes a big hit when you open new accounts and close accounts, all things I did within the last month.

Hopefully when all my payments post my scores will go back to the 700's if not i will just wait things out for a few months. I just do not like not being able to service my clients to the fullest.

Re: Non savvy consumer needs help from savvy consumers

wow, ok it took me a bit to read thru all this, and try to soak it in, First, Im sorry you had such a terrible ordeal! I can't even imagine!

secondly, this would be my honest opinion about your situation.

I would first and foremost escalate those late payments to get them removed. Send a heartfelt goodwill letter to the EO/CEO whoever it is to your CU!

If you're still showing late on your student loans, they can only show for 7 yrs, if they are showing past that...contact all three of the CRA, and file a dispute as "past time" or whatever it is on there.

next....I know you're anxious to get another CC, but if you can wait for another month or two to allow your scores to gain a few extra points, and recover a tad from the loans just being put on the reports, and get that overall utilization down to 10% if possible, but if you can't then 20-30% max!!

That will help your scores too, AND only let one card report a balance each month, you'll gain points doing just that alone!

next...CCs.......

once you've got the util down a little more, and let one card report a balance, and you've seen some increases on your scores, I would say to app for Nordstroms in store for their store card first.
If denied...message me and Ill give you the contact name and number at the EO, who will escalate it to get it approved. If you have fraud alerts and freezes on your reports, you'll have to unfreeze them, and expect a denial but you'll have to call in for verification for the fraud alert.

I would also check Cap1 prequel again at this point after the said above with scores etc, and see if anything pops up.

I would not apply for Dillards...its backed by WF, at this point. I would though app for TJX in store. Same thing if denied, its probably for verification due to your reports.
You might get $250 starting out, but 1-2 months later you'll have that increased to $2k via chat, and we will talk about that later on if approved.

Barneys is awesome!! I would app for this card in a month or two they pull EX exclusively.. If denied, and you get the 7-10 day message, don't worry...They are BIG on verification!! Yowl get a verification letter in the mail with a # to call, and they will ask you for the verification # on the letter. You'll be approved for SL of $750-$1k, but within a month.....itll be $10k!!!!!! Ill tell you the trick on that once your approved!!!

OK, theres my input for whats its worth!Smiley Happy
