I just signed up for the MYFICO service today and was using the simulator and saw that a credit card of only $500 would raise my score quite a bit. Now I am wondering if there is a better card to use for credit rebuilding? I am currently considering the Capital One card and the Navy Federal. Any thoughts on which is the better choice for a secured card?
I don't know anything about Navy Federal, but I know Capital One is typically pretty good to work with.
2 other decent ones:
Bank Of America (the 99/500 secured card - apply for a regular card, and see if they offer you that after you are decined)
Discover secured
I suggest Navy Federal for sure. I would also get a BOA secured. Both have been very good to me! I didn't have to start with a NFCU secured. But, I apped BOA and was countered with a secured. Opened it with $300 December 2013,unsecured at 6 months and is now $20k.
Thank you all for the information. Going to be looking for an unsecured pre-qual first then go on to the secured. I will definitely go with NFCU and check the offers from BOA and Discover. I do have some baddies that I need to have checked because they were opened by my ex while I was deployed. No cards as of now but hopefully will be on my way to getting a few to start the rebuild process.
