Hi Oldman425. Can you give a little info on your BK? Was it BK7 or BK13? I assume AmEx was not included in the BK, correct? When was your approval?

Sure thing.  It was a Chapter 13 and AmEx was not included, the card I have is my first AmEx card, I was thrilled when I was approved for it but a little bumed when I learned that they will not alllow CLIs as long as the BK is on my record.  I was approved for it in April of this year.

This is interesting, I'm not going to apply for it because it just doesnt feel right. However, interesting that the 5 year wait may have changed recently to maybe 2 years.

It is 5 years post file date. Usually the re-payment plan of a 13 is 5 years. By the time you are discharged from a BK13 you are 5 years post file date which is what AMEX requires.

Most creditors determine age of BK by the date you filed.

Oldman425 can you confirm that CLI is not possible if bk is still technically on credit report? I'm 6 yrs post ch 7 bk and i was approved for 3 amex cards in two days earlier this year. Plat, Gold, and 22k starting limit on SPG. Havent tried CLI yet but was looking forward to requesting one. Unless of course you're fairly certain that Amex denies for reporting bk. thanks!

@raisemysc0re, according to your signature, you should apply Dec 2018. 

The preapproval may or may not auto decline you before then. But remember, a preapproval is not an approval.
