Opt/in or opt/out consequences

Question not sure if in correct forum. I opted out of pre approved offers to reduce junk mail at my stateside address. Now when I check cap one or navy fed if I’m preapproved the answer is no.

I’m coming up on my 91/3 with navy fed will this affect my upcoming application or CLI request

Thanks

Re: Opt/in or opt/out consequences

I’m not sure if this is the correct place either, with that said— if you’re opted out you won’t receive any “pre screened” offers and I think you might not be able to get any pre quals either when you enter in basic info... as far as a cli request, since you are requesting more credit you’re giving permission to pull a report weather it’s a SP or a HP is up to the lender but it will be one or the other. Hope this helps...

Re: Opt/in or opt/out consequences

Thanks I’m really interested in the navy fed flagship card for the travel benefits since my recent decline with Cathay pacific. I’m fortunate I was approved post bk with navy fed and PenFed unlike many in the rebuilding stage I have been fortunate with high CLI this next app with navy fed a CLI or new account will be my last until I’m stateside I don’t need the credit now but that may change

Re: Opt/in or opt/out consequences

The above is correct to my understanding as well - opting out prevents getting mailers and being able to see preapprovals, but requests for credit enable a pull and the lender will base a decision on that. Opting out does not preclude credit, just prescreened offers.

Re: Opt/in or opt/out consequences

To confirm the above:

Opting out of prescreened offers merely stops lenders from obtaining your credit report for the purpose of extending you credit or otherwise marketing to you.

This will have no effect on your ability to directly authorize preapproval checks through a lender.

Re: Opt/in or opt/out consequences

Capital One will not show you preapprovals if you opted out. It even says so on the site if you try to run the preapproval.

It says "sorry we can not show you preapproval offers at this time. Is there any chance you opted out of preapproval offers?"

Re: Opt/in or opt/out consequences

Thanks I did not use a lender specific site. I choose the option of opt out of pre screen pre approvals from what I remember. I called navy fed used there pre qualify tool over the phone with csr no offers were available but I think this has more to do with me not being at 91/3 with my first product
