Hi all,
I've been scouring the forum trying to find answers to my issue but haven't had much luck so I decided to post. I recently applied for an Orbitz credit card because I frequently travel and wanted to maximize my Orbitz rewards. I was denied for the following reasons, none of which are true and have no idea what to do to fix this:
-High number of bankcard, installment or property trades that were never reported delinquent indicative of ID fraud
-High average credit limit or loan amount
-High credit limits and balances on revolving trades
-Insufficient length of credit history
Years ago I had 5 student loans that I quickly was able to pay off so I'm thinking that applies to reason number one, but I don't understand what's wrong with that?
I opened my first credit card 11 years ago, bought my first house 8 years ago so I don't think I have a length of credit issue?
Years ago I did open too many credit cards because I was dumb and wanted to take advantage of store discounts but I never used them much and closed them
Back in the day I was in a lot of credit card debt with a few credit cards maxed out. But I since paid those off back in 2014 and although I do use only 1-2 credit cards now for all expenses (I like the cash back rewards) I pay the balance off in full each month. I also have limits of $7500 for each card and I probably spend anywhere from $400-2000 each month (I travel a lot for leisure)
I've checked my credit report and there aren't any errors, I also have a credit score of about 800. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be welcomed as I don't know where to start. I haven't contacted the credit company because I don't know how to defend myself or what proof to gather.
Do you have a fraud alert on your reports?
Strange reasons
So the fact that I have high limits on the only two credit cards I have is negative? I thought by increasing my limit it would be positive.
I haven't opened any new cards since 2012, closed inactive cards around 2013/2014.
Is there anything that can be done to fix my situation?
I've checked my reports and nothing weird is coming up. I regularly check them and haven't had any issues.
Not much you can do with a decline from them as they don't recon.. What kinda of scores do you have and assume you have a good income as you only have two other "high" limit cards? Strange indeed if you have a sold score and good income as not many cards in your profile. If you really want the card wait another few months and you certainly could try again and might yield different results? Unfortunately you can't speak to an UW with them either to interrupt what they are frowning upon or their computer is not liking.

If you are really interested in a travel card, there are other options available. Find a travel card that will provide benefits for the brands you stay at frequently, the airline used frequently, or has decent rewards for travel related expenditures.
