What would I do? With no HPs in 2 years I would apply with another bank.
What was it about this card that made you choose it for your first application after so long in the garden?
The best part was when they pushed me for the secured card on the call - gave me a little laugh.
The main reason for me was recent changes have pushed gas expense to >$400 / month. The stations I frequent (Costco and a smaller station) are Visa only, and my current Chase bundle (CSR / CF / CFU) aren't great for gas beyond the one quarter a year. I've had the Costco Citi, Citi Custom Cash, PenFed Platinum Rewards, and PNC Cash Rewards on the radar and ultimately went with PNC as Costco has no SUB, PenFed is a pain to redeem, and Citi is a MC.
Maybe I'll wait for the letter and call one more time, already wasted the HP
Glad you could laugh about it. I would have been offended. Denial is one thing to offer me a secured card is insulting. I would move on. PNC obviously doesn't deserve your business. I would go for the Citi Costco card. Yeah, I know no sub but still great benefits.
Sorry about your denial , PNC is a relationship driven though, maybe open an account with them.

Application came back with denied. Called into the recon line, and they told me that it was due to insufficient unsecured credit history and they offered me a secured card. I was very surprised because it seems like this card shouldn't be difficult to get with the stats below.
Open cards: 6 (3x Chase, 2x Amex, 1x Discover)
Total credit: $50K
Oldest card: 2013
AAoA: 6 yr
Last card opened: 4+ years ago
VantageScore 3.0: 800+ for TU / EQ / EX
HPs in the last 2 years: 0
Income: 200K+
Util: <5%
Curious for your thoughts, or what you would do next. Recon didn't seem to want to budge, but I didn't really try to push and figured I could always wait for the letter and call back in.
SAME SAME SAME !
Today 8/15 when im on my app spree, I hit PNC Visa Signature and instant denied on my screen, they pulled EX and im in CA
My Stat:
EX FICO8 -------------- 817
utilization ------------- 4%
Opened Account -- 32
Inq ----------------------- 0/12 , 11/24
Income ---------------- $160k
Oldest Account ---- 15.5yrs
Avg Age Acc --------- 4.3 yrs
STRAIGHT OUT INSTANT DENIED ME , not even care to give me $500 $1000 , cuz my profile to them worth ZERO not even a $1
Came out from 13 months garden, first app spree Denied. Im upset
Thanks to the posters who shared these DPs. I had been somewhat considering going for the PNC due to the 4% back on gas, but these strange denials are swaying me against risking a wasted HP.
I mean, look at OP: 6 open cards totaling $50k. Credit going back to 2013; AAoA 6 years; last new account 4 years ago. Scores >800. 0/24. Income >$200k. Util < 5%. Denied?! That's a credit profile that ought to be able to get approved for any card product on the market (maybe short of the AmEx Centurion). Maybe PNC is pulling back to approving only PNC banking customers? If so, it'd be helpful if they limited new apps to PNC banking customers.
